You don't mention if you own or rent, which can make a big difference, as can your budget. However, I have one idea you should check out..I just borrowed this book--200 Small Apartment Ideas-- by Chistina Parades Benitez- (Publisher-Firefly Books) from my local library. It was just published this year and is a treasure trove of beautiful pictures of modern apartments from all over the world. It is written from both a design and an architectural perspective and many of the ideas would only be possible if you owned your place. Nevertheless, it will give you lots of inspiration...Good luck!! PS The book would also make a fabulous holiday gift!!

I'd like to see how you did the sides Are the painted white or did you leave them as they were.? (i.e. in the "wicker look?"

I have an old bathroom wall unit that is made out of fake wicker and really cheap wood that I have been contemplating painting, which is why I ask.

Special thanks to you for these links and ideas..I am definitely more into the Nantucket style vs lush tropical or Mediterranean Although I love some of the Mediterranean and even Moroccan inspired wallpapers and accessories I have seen lately I think you need a little bit more space than I have here to pull off that particular look.Sigh..maybe some day:>).

Since this is a "color" contest..I would like to know which green is truly representative of the kitchen.. The color that I see in your photos does look muted but seems to fit much better with your palette and the industrial look than the swatch color.

I had the same question.. For that matter,. why post something that is still in prototype stage that we may never even see?
Take a hint from Seth Godin. Better to write two lines of relevant content than ten lines of fluff.

I am really looking forward to the comments for this article because, if I had to name my most perplexing and annoying habit, this would be it. I NEVER finish anything..not even a cup of coffee!! (OK, I have finished a few projects, but not many)
I have no idea why I do this, but it drives me nuts. Right now I have a half dozen unfinished drawings, a partially painted room, a couple of pieces of partially refinished furniture, two e-books that are 80% finished and and dozens of other loose ends waiting for my attention..Why oh why can't I get them done????

I am hoping some of the wonderful people here on Apartment Therapy will help me to get my act together at least a little bit more.

PS I am no kid..I should know better by now!

These images are incredible . Some of them are shocking-like the woman being carried against her will (it appears) into a car..Who is she? What is happening to her? Is it a rape or a rescue? That's what these images do for me..Make me wonder about what's going on.
There's something about the anonymity of the whole thing that makes them compelling. It's not great art, it's not art at all, I think that's the point. None the less I couldn't stop scrolling until I got to the end.

4 stars for creativity and 5 for execution. REALLY well done!

I think Rucy got it right..Maybe it's your lighting in the picture but I think a very muted aqua would be lost against the tan, which appears quite dark to me. I would definitely lose the cabinet to the right (my view) above the table; it looks weird and out of place. Some art that pulls together all the colors from your L/R, kitchen and eating area would be great.
My only other comment is that we are not seeing the whole space, just a little corner of it. You might be fine doing that whole wall (including the one with the cabinet we want you to take down.) I'd paint the first part thenlive with it for a week or so. Then if you like continue the paint all the way through. Whatever color you use I would definitely paint the front of the island to match.

I can relate to Longorious' post..Living in an apartment is often very transitory and decorating can lead to asking yourself a lot of "what ifs?" But as a long time apartment dweller I have begun, finally, to let go of that thinking and decorate for NOW. I want an apartment I can love today no matter what tomorrow may bring. Of course, if you know you only have a six month sublet you will make different decisions than if you just signed a two year lease. But it's silly to play it safe just because you MIGHT have to move.
