The counters are my favorite thing in the whole apartment. +100 for soapstone. I don't care that you have to maintain them and that they are considered delicate (they really arent). The fridge is a Fisher Paykel - its pretty narrow - and is sort of made for city apartments. Liebherr makes one that is even more narrow. There is a trick on the fridge to get it to line up w/ hte counter depth - the 'box' its in is actually deeper than the counters. The cabinet above and pantry to the side are custom . The stove is a 30" Bertazonni. Dishwasher is a Blomberg. Stove / dishwasher were purchased from AJ Madison which I fully endorse. The fridge was from PC Richards. Good luck with the reno! Unfortunately many apartments in NYC do not have stove hoods or ventilation, but we are lucky that there is a window next to our stove. We used a good quality paint, and are careful to wipe spatter as it happens. It hasn't been a problem thus far and we can always touchup the paint if we have a particularly bad spill. Our island is only the depth of the cabinet + the overhang for the 'breakfast bar'. We specifically chose drawers instead of shelves with doors to make getting at things a cinch. Your calculation is roughly correct for the under counter storage - its probably more like 10 or 11 feet. There is a large, deep cabinet above the fridge, plus a 'pantry' you dont see in these pictures, to the left of the fridge. We have lots of stuff. A food processor, air popper, juicer, blender, tons of baking stuff, lots of pots (Sally is a great cook btw), 2 drawers full of tools and one of crap left over from the renovation that needs to be tossed.
