I think this is especially important after someone (in my case, a beloved pet) passes away. Now he's literally there on our mantel every day now, along with a few little reminders and a nice patch of sun every morning: Dedicated Friend-Shelf: A Reminder You Are Loved |

It all boils down to exclusivity. Working at a high-end firm, our clients will pay those fees in order to have something unique or special, even if we're reupholstering and refinishing a vintage/antique piece. To The Trade: Dying Concept or Design Mainstay? |

Thank you for this post. As an interior designer, I get a little annoyed when these shows don't factor in design fees, freight, and construction costs into their projects. Yes, the shows can "design on a dime" for $1000, but that's with free labor. I think it's giving the public an unrealistic idea of what (re)designing your home can actually cost. Still love it. And don't forget how they tried to update the color palette in the shortlived primetime drama, "The Bradys". The open staircase still worked in a neutral scheme! Design Remembrance: The Brady Bunch House |

Hey everyone, Jason (the designer) here. This remodel was for my friend (the homeowner), so there were some ideas (like the new window) that were his, made after living in his home for many years. I presented different layouts (including tubs) and talked about practicality. Since he rarely used his tub and we couldn't enlarge the space any more, we went with the walk-in shower. The ledge on the floor, along with proper drainage and floor gradient, usually takes care of excess water hitting the floor. And the shower head is pretty close to the wall and shoots straight down, so that helps too. Before & After: Jason's Beautiful Bathroom Remodel |

I say yay for the same reasons as above (buying and cooking fresh each week.) Also having lived abroad, you get used to a different way of life. I've seen so many things go bad in friends' overstuffed "regular" sized refrigerators, so I was actually kind of jazzed to move into an SF flat with an undercounter fridge 5 years ago. I think "10a" could be inserted in there to get people thinking about custom or personalized pieces. It can help balance things out and prevent your home from looking like a showroom or Ikea/Room & Board/CB2 ad. Before & After: 10 Tips for Redecorating on a Budget |

EXCELLENT! I am feeling the '70s with this in such a great way. My ex once painted the hallway of our old apartment in gold and silver chevron stripes in a way that also resembled vintage wallpaper. That took skill and vision. Before & After: Pretty in Pink to Bold Black & White – Part 2 |

I think it's really impressive on so many levels. First of all, she's a young designer who's developed/developing her own signature style and isn't afraid to experiment in her own home. Second, she young and living in what almost looks like an efficiency unit/converted SRO. Maybe her life isn't cluttered with "stuff" yet. It's not how my clients (or I) live, but I still think it's amazing to see what she's done with 125 square feet. This space could get cluttered really easily, but she keeps it clean and spare. 125 Square Feet! Kristen's Minimalist Studio in Seattle House Call |
