Yeah, empty plastic crates for storage. I learned while still in college that picking these things from the 'trash' is actually illegal in the States. The restaurant/dorm kitchen/fast food places put them out by the door, and the delivery companies pick them up. To try and 'reclaim' them is in fact theft.
To all the dumpster divers out there, please try to make sure your cool acquisitions are legal.

Uh oh. I'm a crafter. You just did something dangerous by showing me these things. Hehehe...

My only problem with this is the bulk buying.
First off, I live in an apartment with very limited storage space.
Second, there's only the two of us. Buying in bulk wastes food an money.
Third, and perhaps worst of all, the only store with bulk bins in my area seems to be selling bulk live insects. YECH!!! This is at Whole Foods, no less.

So never mind the containers. Where does one find bulk food items that are safe for human consumption?

I have been using home-made and store-bought green cleaning stuff for the past few years.
There are a couple of additions I would make to the list.
8. Cleaning cloths. Skoy cloth sponge cloths, microfiber cloths to go over the head of the swiffer sweeper, a fleece swiffer head from one of the many sellers on Etsy.
9. Borax, for laundry, and for jobs that require a tougher abrasive than baking soda.
10. Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap liquid soap. Mixed with the baking soda, makes a cream cleanser that is good on counters, stovetops, and sinks. Can also be used on its own, so I've heard, for dishes and more.
11. Citrus oil for polishing wood furniture.
12. a copy of Green Up Your Cleanup by Jill Poitvin-Schaff. This book has a lot of recipes for green home-made cleaners, and lists of what to avoid if you decide to go with store-bought ones.
A note about essential oils: I have not yet tried eucalyptus, but I know that my pets have had problems with Tea tree oil. I have also heard that orange and lemon essential oils may not be pet safe, so I recommend using them sparingly.

Am I the only one here thinking 2 shades of green, brick red, golden yellow, slate grey, gold, brown, and blue? It would be much cooler than this.

Polly S -- Too right. A cat is after all the only accessory any room really needs. I mean, how much work is anyone really going to accomplish in this office once cat meets lap?

Question: Is there any brand of eco-friendly dish soap that comes in the inexpensive bags like you mentioned? Repurposing a soda bottle for dish soap is great, but not if you end up putting hazardous chemicals into the groundwater as a result.

Yes, I know what it is. I have used one for several years. Mine was purchased at Yoder's Department Store in Shipshewana Indiana. It has, however, cracked because I was dumb and didn't keep it oiled. The wooden cutters work beautifully as long as they are properly floured. No mushing of the edges, Leslie.
However, $14 for a biscuit cutter? Really? From what planet are they imported? Mine was under $5 and lasted for at least 10 years.
I'm currently browsing online for someplace to beat Wood Elements' unreasonable prices.

Once again, not original. Papercrafts sites, Carol Duval, and Martha Stewart have been showing these things for at least 10 years, probably more.
Papercrafters and scrapbookers tend to do these with scrap cardstock or photos, though.

Sigh...Nails and bolts? Really? That's what passes for original on this site?
