Rowenta. Nothing else. My mother once entered the store, and asked for an iron. Girl showed her this, and that iron, and talked about them vigorously. Than she asked again - Do you have an IRON, Rowenta iron?
Than girl smiled, and showed her the expensive stuff from glass cabinet ;-)))

I have one for 10 years, and it still works great. Although I bought a new one last year for some "lighter" ironing (also Rowenta) for my sewing needs my old, heavy one is irreplaceable. It has a stainless steel plate that can be easily cleaned, and has not yet leaked, although we have very hard water here.

It needs some life.
To me the room looks like a nice, sterile showroom in furniture shop - just for looking, not for living in it.
Add some color, a plant or two, something that says "I live here!".

Mirror in the dining room got my attention. My mother has two similar mirrors in her home (although not in silvery-gold, but plain oak :-) )
Nice an inviting home, thanks for sharing.

I see here on some photos that the lower bed is significantly wider than the upper one Why ? I don't see the point in that. For me bunk beds as "space savers", and a wider lower bed is not really in that area...

You may try medical grade benzine (I don't know if it is a proper term in US, it is used in medical facilities to clean the skin prior interventions).
Here it is often used in home settings to dissolve any oily/waxy stain or residue - we use it frequently to remove the band aids without tears (and leftover stickyness) :-)
Benzine will dissolve nicotine/tar stains, but I'm not sure what it will do to the embroidery floss.
Just my 5 cents...

Grown up and living in Eastern Europe (ex-YU). Here, kompot is a a cross-over between a dessert and a drink. Generally, the ones that are put in jars are mostly fruit and much sweeter. Therefore, mostly a dessert, because the main goal is to preserve the fruit. The ones made in winter are mostly drink (hot or cold). They are made with fruit available in winter (apples), sometimes with a few dried fruits (plums, pears, raisins) for added flavor. Less sugar is added (or no sugar at all) and more water. Then it is cooked until the fruit gives up all of it's flavor to the liquid. At my grandma's house you could always find some kompot at far end of wooden stove, simmering slowly, ready to pour in your cup :-) Fruit is often discarded when all the liquid is gone.
I, myself, prefer the drink version. But from time to time (like last week) when I get fragrant homegrown pears i put them in jars for winter. Otherwise, if I feel like eating kompot, I buy a jar in a supermarket.

This is strange. Really. To find kompot is something that is not known to the rest of the world, and to find it in the middle of making some pear kompot myself. I love that one the most. That one is just screaming "SUMMER!" when you open the jar in the middle of January. :-)

Where I live, it is forbidden for minors (under 18 yrs.) to travel abroad without a parent or assigned guardian (who has written consent signed by both parents). I witnessed a boy who was 16, and wanted to see a concert in a neighboring state. He was accompanied by his aunt, but without proper papers they were not allowed to cross the border. I believe it is also forbidden for youngsters to travel alone domestically, but I don't know that for sure. Public transport (city bus) is allowed for solo traveling school age children (seven and up).
Personally, I would let my kids to travel alone as minors only in organized groups (school trips etc.). After they turn 18 they can travel wherever they want.

I have that same parquet flooring in my home. The same style, anyway. Although for mine I know it is vintage and genuine oak. If it is the same in your case, all you have to do to "deal with it" is to sweep it with a damp microfiber cloth, and enjoy.
If it lacks varnish (lacquer or whatever is the term, I'm not native English speaker) and looks a little dull/without shine, you can buff it with some parquet wax.
In case you really dislike the parquet itself, than you can just cover it with some nice rug, and enjoy (again) in your first apartment.

We have a small apartment so we used Ikea changing pad (with inflatable sides) on top of washing machine. Works fine with second, as it worked with the first one :)
Height is just as it should be, we're in the bathroom where all the action is taking place, and necessary stuff (cloth diapers, some clothes) are stuffed in on shelves and in handmade organizer. Picture here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/15749632@N07/3304196223/in/set-72157614353034116

In the evening fill your machine with dirty clothes, allow it to take up detergent and all the water it needs, and to roll a drum a couple of times. This is necessary to dissolve and equally distribute the detergent.
Press OFF button and go to sleep.
In the morning, press ON button, and wash your clothes as usual. Soaking in water and detergent over night will remove stubborn stains. I also second the hand washing dish detergent tip for stain removing.

How Can I Get Stains Out With My Front Load Washer?
Good Question

At first - money, 'couse stuff I wanted to wear were really expensive. Also, the size of clothes. I'm taller than that imaginary person to whom they fit all the clothes sold in stores, so I always come up short with sleeves and trousers. Even if I could afford a certain piece, it usually won't fit me properly. So I learned to sew, knit, crochet... and ended up with paying extra only for shoes. My fins can fit only in the pricey ones, and I don't find it necessary to learn to make shoes too ;-)
In that "girly" set of skills creeped in the other ones. The ones involving the power tools, brushes, paints etc. A girl should know how to do things on her own :-)
Than, there is that proud feeling that comes with "I made that"
Also, the "I recycled/repurposed that" with a glowing smile, 'couse I'm the Earth loving soul
And, of course, that special feeling when you sell something you made
Now I'm doing DIY mostly for the kids. They really appreciate all the effort, and nothing can fuel me more than wide open eyes, big smile and thank-you kiss from my little ones
