So true. I had a drill at the top of my Christmas and birthday lists (my family demands these) for two straight years before they finally believed I was serious. They obliged at last, just as I was moving into a new place. I love it!

Wasn't this event back in May or something? Is there an embargo on when you can show it? Most of this stuff I've already seen in the stores or on the cover of the catalogs. I appreciate you sharing what you saw, but would have loved to have seen it back when it was still a "preview"!

I've had similar questions about veneers from that era. How successful is it to sand down something like that? The varnish seems so thick, or rather the veneers seem so thin. I've been at a loss with similar pieces I have.

@DesignBuildDwell -- Actually, the jury is very much out on whether or not disposable plates are worse for the environment than washing by hand or using a dishwasher. The water and the energy used to heat the water for dishwashing have their own harmful impact. It's not always that simple.

Can I ask where you got your credenza/tv stand?

Two things -- bring in some wood, and then add some paint.

Specifically -- I'd recommend a mid-century walnut console (or similar) to replace the tv stand and then carry that wood throughout the room more in frames when you add artwork the walls.

Then, I think a pumpkin/ochre/burnt orange colored walls or accent wall would add warmth and some earthiness

I think window boxes and flower pots on the front step, along with replacing the awning would give you the biggest bang for the buck. I also love the idea above of some type of flagstone walkway replacing the concrete sidewalk.
As for the paint and shingles, i think they work well enough. If the paint is peeling (or when it's time to repaint), I'd update it with a slightly warmer red. But please don't paint over the brick!

What does the rest of the place look like? You could have a lot of fun with these cabinets. A warm orange could give it a fun retro feel, or the ice blue mentioned above would be amazingly sleek. A deep brown would pull out the grain and be more be neutral for a rental.
