Ha! That shirt is pretty funny. I am not a vegetarian, but I was for many years. It was strange because I found myself missing the most unhealthy, fattiest types of meat during that time: salami, bacon, gristle, gravy...you get the point. This looks amazing!! As to other chestnut paste ideas, there is an elusive old-timer of a pie called the Nesselrode pie that uses chestnut puree (although sometimes it's substituted with a candied fruit melange). I just attended a reading where the author read a chapter, and I was extremely impressed. I just bought the book and can't wait to read the rest! I love how the lure and lore of food is combined so beautifully in the book. I am obsessed with hand pies. There is some great lore on them too in John T. Edge's excellent "Apple Pie" book (I'm his biggest fan so I had to say it!). I came across real hand pies later in life, but am so glad I have--because nobody should only eat Hostess fruit pies and think that's all there is to the story!
