I have old screens in my apartment, and they're so old that, when I tried to clean one very carefully, I punched a hole in it! So be careful with how old your screens are or they might just disintegrate like mine!

love the post. love the pics. I am, however, going to be that grammar freak. I figure if you're a writer, and that's your job, you should be doing it right. "...according to a friend who stopped by on their lunch hour..." should be HIS or HER lunch hour depending on the gender of the friend.

Great color. I'm always curious what DIY-ers of the RAST do to the inside. Do you just leave it wooden? Paint the inside of the drawers but not the sliding part? Pretty paper? Just curious.

typo in title? iPod nano, not iPad nano. iPad nano is... an iPod touch.

The beater bar on an older vacuum can actually be a good thing. What you should do though is turn the rug over on a flat surface such as hardwood, clean concrete, or something similar and the run the vacuum over the rug. But instead of running the vacuum quickly, let it sit. The vibrations from the beater bar shake out all the dirt that has settled in there. Seriously, it's amazing how much dirt gets sucked in there. Giving your rug a vacuum the normal way does very little. A professional cleaning also goes a long way. (My father owned and operated an Oriental rug store.)

I also use Damprid in my bedroom just because of how abnormally wet my room is. It makes a difference, but its certainly not to the degree that a dehumidifier would.

I recently "inherited" small bag of keys from my grandmother. About 20 of them are skeleton keys of various sizes and types and they are BEAUTIFUL but covered in rust. I've tried all the homemade methods to remove the rust but haven't wanted to buy a rust-removing chemical simply because I don't know what to do with these beautiful keys! Any ideas?

i think this would only work in a closet with a window... which most of us don't have. That said, a lighter color would probably work, and that color is GORGEOUS

I apparently am in the minority, but I think it looks much better, since the mess of cords would stress me out. Also, Michelle was very smart about which electrical things she put in the box to avoid fire safety concerns. lastly, to all the people who are unhappy about this suggestion,

a) its a suggestion, so you don't have to do it. and
b) it's not your house, so you certainly don't have to live with it!

p.s. I am very excited to see the rest of the house!
