I find it a short-sighted view to say "anything can be art."

@SherryBinNH and @Roselle made good points esp. about Duchamp's background, accomplishments and intentions, which are all important in defining most other practices or professions or expertise.

If I have success with my garden this spring, can I say I'm a horticulturist? If give care to my sick loved one, am I a nurse? Of course there are some would argue yes, but I would argue no. The outcome has some value (as can a decoration for your wall), but the practice and the intention are not the same, nor would our society be without real nurses and real horticulturists.

And an aside to those who condescendingly call artists "artistes" or are sure it's an ego trip- I wonder if you have pride and dedication in your work, what ever field that may be?

Michelle-
Perhaps you could use the slots originally intended for labeling so you don't have to memorize where each of your pieces has been tucked away? You may consider adding a little of the old whimsy back with "turquoise treasures," "favorite sparklers" or "beloved gifts." There's some great ephemera out the to inspire the design of labels too.
Impressive amount of work in any case.

coming from the same place as lessyloo- long time reader, first time commenting, all because i don't think this place has reached it's potential. her taste is very pretty though, and as so many have said, she has wonderful pieces to work with.

i suggest taking a look at balancing your use of albeit limited space for all your beloved objects. think about creating moments to cluster and negative space to define these choice moments. you could cluster framed hanging pieces tighter together and then leaving some blank wall space for the eye to rest. in the same way, books stacked on the chair in the kitchen and clusters of your treasures in the walk through closet are charming and feel lived-in, but then perhaps you could edit (and edit again) in your sitting room and entry way. a few pairs of fabulous shoes out on the floor is fun and feminine and personal, but then clear out completely under the console table at the front door.

best of luck :)
