Looks like your dog might be part Newfoundland, maybe? Is he big?
We have a 170lb Newfoundland and a 115lb Greater Swiss (similar to a Bernese). We've had shepherds, bull breeds, and rottie mixes. None of them touch the amount of hair that our Newf and Swissy produce. A Roomba? HAH! It'd be clogged in 5 minutes. We actually killed a Dyson on their fur.
Do you allow your pets on the furniture? If so - NO LEATHER! Our dogs would have it destroyed in weeks.
I'd get a speckled rug. We had hardwood for 3 years with the Swissy (and our large entryway currently has it), and the constant drifts of fur drove me nuts. The right colored carpet can mask things for at least a few hours (if not a full day!).
Good luck :-)

Decorating Around Pet Hair?

When will companies stop irresponsibly marketing pillow cases to parents of infants? It doesn't make their $100 blanket more appealing; it only screams "pretentious and dangerous", and supports the false opinion, held by many parents, that it's normal and safe to place their babies on pillows to sleep. Posh little tots in designer sheets aren't immune to SIDS simply because the hazard cost a lot and looks nice.

Having said that... the blanket isn't my style, but I can definitely appreciate the uncommon and interesting design for what it is.

Oh this is just silly. I don't think parents who chill their childrens' lunches are overprotective at all, but your child's body wasn't meant to be in a bubble either. I was raised to believe along these paranoid lines, and after meeting and marrying my husband (who would eat 2-day-old pizza, among other gross things), I've also fallen into the "unsafe" habit of eating the previous night's dinner--for breakfast. The next day. Without it having been refrigerated for 10 full house, because I had forgotten after dinner, and I'll be darned if I waste perfectly good food. And ya know what? It's been several years, and I haven't been sick once.

Ice pack the crap out lunch it if offers you peace of mind, but scare tactic headlines like this are ridiculous.
And no, I won't be buying whatever expensive, ultra-insulated "keep your kid's lunch cooler and safer!" product comes out next because of hype like this.

You stole the words right out of my mouth, Moby. SHEETS. SOURCE. NOW, PLEASE!

But yes, this is most definitely an awesome project. We have a leaky pipe in our wall that will require some dry wall being cut away tomorrow - RIGHT under the stairs, where there is tons of dead space. I'm most definitely going to attempt this project now! The timing couldn't be more perfect!

Er, I think I'm missing something. How does this relate to design?

Floor length curtains look lovely and polished, but window-length ones don't look terrible AND you'll have a small child crawling, stepping, and tugging on them if they're long. There's a healthy balance between style and practicality, so for that reason I suggest going short.

I love the last room! So clean and beautiful without being too gender-specific. Perfect for either sex.

Nenasadiji - I respect your *opinion*, but people who choose to use the term "gender" in the traditional sense have every right to do so without our world being further complicated by yet ANOTHER politically correct alternate meaning to worry about. When people aggressively impose their minority/alternative opinions upon others as absolute fact, as you just did, it's counterproductive to what I can only assume you hope to achieve.

Gender-Neutral and -Specific Color Combos

Yes, I would.
But I have two 100+pound dogs, loaded guns (one of which is always on hand), and an ADT panic button that's 4 feet from my door. Let them TRY to attack me in my own home.

But thankfully, I have a small window next to the door. Otherwise, I'd avoid the added risk and install a peep hole. If you rent, a landlord would have to be VERY unreasonable to deny a request to install one.

I won't upon the door without having my dogs there. Our vicious one gets left in the entryway while I step *outside* to speak to strangers with our friendly 150lb dog (who I lie and say bites) by my side.

Call me paranoid, but I refuse to ever be harmed in my own home.

We have two GIANT dogs (115 & 160 pounds) who shed HEAVILY, and we all share the king sized bed. I vacuum the bed nearly every day, and wash sheets once a week. Our biggest challenge is finding bedding in fabrics that don't absorb fur. I can't tell you how much money we've wasted on sheets that dog hair clings too!!! It's a nightmare! So far, the flannel "home" brand sheets from Target have been the perfect solution!

Furry Bedfellows: Do You Sleep with Your Pet?
NY Times

I'm all for co-sleeping... HOWEVER, Children who die from SIDS don't do so loudly or with symptoms that would wake you, so simply having the baby in your room (even if they're touching you) doesn't eliminate the risk for SIDS (even if you swear to have super-human senses).

There's a 99.99% chance that you'll NEVER need the expensive gadget, but if the 0.01% happens, I can guarantee that the price will seem meaningless and that you'd give anything to go back in time to buy it.

I say go for it.

Just make sure to get the newer model, because I've heard the older ones get static and other interference a lot.

The alarm will sound when you forget to turn it off when taking him out of the crib (and you WILL forget at least once), so attaching a cute sign to the crib and/or changing table during the first few weeks to remind you to turn it off will spare you the starting experience of it suddenly blaring at 2am mid-diaper change.

I love the *idea* of a chalkboard fridge... but how functional is it? Does it clean up well? I just imagine it would absorb oil from food spills, causing some ugly stains.

Oh geez, guys. The potty shot isn't a bit scandalous.

I love pictorial schedules, and this one is very nice. We're in the process of adopting two little boys (3 and 4) from eastern Europe, so having something very visual and concrete like this would be perfect.

Thanks for the inspiration. :-)
