what an amazing job! It feels very warm and personal. The art collection is themed beautifully, the modern pieces are complemented by traditional rugs. I would not change a thing! Yes, you may feel that it's small, but you use every inch of this studio well. Off to check you blog now...

Same problem here in Michigan. I bought 2 trays at Bed, Bath and Beyond, that hold 3 pairs of shoes each, put small stones on the bottom. Everyday after we walk the dog, we take our shoes off and put them there to dry. Once a week, I wash those stones and put them back into trays. It'll still be a bit messy. I have FLOR tiles in the foyer, we step on them after taking the shoes off. Works for me :)

I wasn't going to comment on this at all. But just kept coming back to this post.
Josh, thanks for sharing your home with us, but I think you are rightfully getting negative posts here. There is nothing valuable in your comments. The way you described crystal filled wall units and ceiling molds (which I gather you don't appreciate), upholstered sofa and walls covered with rugs sounds rather judgmental. You can't expect to see the same decorative styles as you are accustomed to. Now, I don't see you putting in any effort to bring your own style into this apartment. If you really wanted to show the best of your home, you could have taken pictures during the day with more natural light and maybe a couple of DIY projects that you've finished to make this more livable...
I also think that your idea of putting Soviet Propaganda posters on the walls in this particular apartment will not add any "charm" to the place.
Come on, put a little more thought into this. Combine the traditional cultural aspects and your own experiences.

I don't get this comment about "retail". These pictures have enough personal touches to make them unique. What do you expect to see laundry hampers and clothes on the floor??? There's nothing wrong in investing into timeless pieces as long as they fit people's aesthetics. For me, it boils down to taste. And this family definitely has it done tastefully. Where do I vote? This entry is a winner :) I also would looooove to see more of this house.

I purchased this duvet cover, and regretted it right away. After the first wash (delicate setting) some of the stitching came apart. It was impossible to iron, and the fabric softeners didn't do the trick. Even if you didn't have a cat, I would say not to buy it... Most of the West Elm's products are of really great quality, but this one is just not that good.

I agree with hejiranyc. When I first saw the original post with this picture, I too called it "stumps". Having this wallpaper in my home, I can attest to the fact that it looks even better in person. As to the "cliche" vs "classic" discussion, I haven't made up my mind. It's beautiful, I love it, it fits my home and my style - I care less if people call it cliche. I actually found the wallpaper myself about 2 yrs ago, before I saw it in other magazines.

AT always comes in at the right time! I bought curtains for an odd shaped bay window in my living room yesterday, and was about to launch a google search for these kinds of tracks.

wig3000, if you look on line, they also have one set up with a valance board.

Looked at this entry twice. Something about this gray just doesn't do it for me. Both colours don't complement each other. In general, well thought out place. Maybe adding another palette will solve the issue. Voting COOL for effort.

E. From the design point of view, just none of them fit my style regardless of whose house they are in. Too many different elements, I prefer cleaner lines.

Elaine, your apartment is incredible. I was going through archives for inspiration, and came across your home. It is so unique and so personalized, it is a futile task to try and recreate it. BUT, I've got so many ideas from your place, that I can hardly wait to implement some of them. One question, though. i read in your comments that you got the living room rug from a carpet store (the one that looks like corrals). I found the same one, but it was too expensive, around $37/sq.ft? Where exactly did you get yours??? Thank you.
