really having different wood in SEPERATE rooms was a problem? were you expecting constant house tours or something? I was expecting this to be about different wood in the same room and how to resolve that...as many of us who cannot afford to redo our whole place's furnishing have to sort out.

I love these...but a gentle reminder for those of you whose lives are filled with family and close friends..the guideline, 'speak to at least one friend or family member a day' is not possible for many of us.
So I say include emails and Facebook and texts...if phoning or face to face is tricky, to keep in touch with those you love..they have made a difference in my life, which otherwise would feel emptier without them

I LOVE pics 1, 3 and 4
the other two look so grown up they remind me of my friends middle aged parents' homes I would visit as a teen.

Well I pride myself as a colour nerd, so I thought no problem. It was14 on my first turn and I was cranky about that, so I did it again determined to do better which resulted in a 16. *pout*. It is a little head spinny...more so, as I have double vision AND was talking on the phone. So I think I will go back when I am not on the phone and my eyes are fresh and see what the score is then. ( obsessed much? )

perfect...mum was the one left with the mess and she did the chore of picking it up so, to require a chore in return is not punishment but a fair trade. :-)

I think the black works in the settings you have shared because of the loftiness and interest in the structure and interest of architectural detail...even your hotel room though contemporary has the high ceiling and a lovely play of texture ...ie the glass tiles on the wall and the wooden beam.

I so wanted to favourite this...but...I needed to see more than the bed and couch, couch and bed...a pic from the bed looking at whatever that table thingy is would have done it for me, it made me think, what is NOT working here..???

interesting considering the trend in the 2000's to have highly stylized gardens in contemporary English and Australian home reno shows..... what does it say? Is that trend the inheritor of the French style..and therefore indicative of a need for control? Or is it visual laziness and lack of imagination that it is describing.

I love the idea and then.... the cupboards are below eye level.... I find that disturbing, if I am going for open I want to be able to see into the dining area...

Yes!!! I do!!! and I am on a Nanny's wage...I look at the art of young and new artists in town, many of them sell good quality beautiful work for a couple of hundred dollars. I am living a little of my patrons' dream, I am encouraging a young artist, I am promoting beauty and feeling proud of a 'live' object in my home. I have recently purchased a silkscreen by an artist who just became important. I have forst hand art in my house. What else am I going to spend money on...clothes? Furniture? There is the second hand store for that.

Austin...will have to go down there for a house tour..tourist attraction!
I wonder sometimes how much photos represent how the place looks when lived in..in this case..the red chairs up against the coffee table..really, not much room for legs there!!!

I so admire your apartment-your aesthetic; it's really beautiful, truly classical modernist of the early twentieth century (not mid!). I especially notice the placement of your artworks and the depth of the subject matter, that 'thinker' figure reminds me of an Odilon Redon . Even your landscapes have a sense of optimistic gravity about them.

I am actually not a fan of natural wood..find it oppressive most of the time and like my wood painted .However I agree with oregonbird about the chairs... the dark wood is fantastic and with a bright colour like a gorgeous red as the fabric...I wouldn't get a tulip table I would paint the table you have- THAT could be white .
If you JUST HAD to paint the chairs I would paint them not white but a colour ..an interesting blue or green or red. Each chair different if you wanted. If they were mine I would restore them as is ..not even touch the fabric...I would put simple and funky tie cushions/ coverlets on the seats to preserve them...until you looked into their value..I am not sure many of these chairs are around any more...these are in good condition and if they are a collectors find I am sure it would be better to leave them intact.
