The Womb Chair and Ottoman is the greatest gift to comfy. I have one in Aegaen Boucle that makes me very happy every day. I would say that it's highest/most natural use is watching movies/conversation, due to the slightly kicked back lounging position. It's naturally comfortable to have your head back and eyes forward.

I write in mine every morning and have found that readjusting the base cushion back and the back cushion up creates a more upright posture, better for a position where the head is bowed for reading/writing. The chair perfectly accomodates the Levenger Lapdesk, which is great for typing/long-hand/note-taking. If I'm working for several hours, i'll pop a pillow behind my shoulders, as it's nice to lean my head back in deep contemplation (jk).

I'm even considering getting rid of my desk entirely, as i do most work in the Womb now.

Ah, Saarinen. Did he make any subpar objects?

It looks like the scene in poltergeist when the clown comes out from under the bed. scary!

i have the rolly mirror in my entryway - it's absolutely perfect. bike lights, keys, etc. thotchkes on top. simple hooks to either side. great landing strip.

agreed on the fabric - i've done this on sliding doors and unfinished walls in lofts. i usually back the fabric with a bit of batting. this can soften the edges and help muffle sound. just use a staple gun and you're all set!

i've used moleskins for awhile. they are expensive but i find that my journals last a couple months to a year - so it better be high enough quality to get jostled around in my bag for a long while. i've been very happy with mine.

then again, i'm a sucker for lovely papers.

i once made a dress out of old cashmere sweaters. full-length it sure kept the cold away during portland winters while putzing around the house.

goodnightdean - i completely support your comment. i'm also a southern lady, and there's something brassy, sexy, elegant, and sweetly ridiculous about monograms. (like my debutante friend in ny who had her LL bean tote monogrammed not with her initials, but GAY. she's queer. when she pulls a lilly pulitzer makeup case out of her bag, it makes me swoon at her brilliance.) I heart monograms.

i bought these in amsterdam while on vacation. great for arrangements in our sublet. i've recycled most of my other vases - these are perfect for small arrangements and don't take up any room in the cupboard!

i had the same bathroom idea. Since i live in portland, and water plays such a key role in the way pdx is navigated, i want to wallpaper in maps of oregon waterways, lakes, and rivers.

i was planning to place them and then shellac/polyurethane them on - kind of like decoupage? wouldn't that keep the water from affecting them?

i got all my maps from a friend's cartographer dad. do you think i should cut off all the white edge and just have the image? or keep the border?

excited to see other people inspired by maps as wallpaper. cuts out needing to take a magazine to the bathroom!

Mr Green, I've been reading AT for over a year and i've never been so disappointed in a poster. It's not just this example, but all over AT. I have no idea why you need to demean other people's opinions so often, but it's off-putting, leaving a nasty haze on AT. Would you mind being a little less snarky when you comment? Thanks

I think it's important to remember that this is a Hand-Blown Object. This is an incredibly difficult skill to acquire, not to mention expensive in terms of studio time and materials.

When I buy hand made objects by designers/artists, I have the opportunity to invest in/support my creative community as well as acquiring a gorgeous object. That's worth a little bit more money to me. But then, I like to support the arts and drink good wine or pdxwater. (These carafes are the water carafe of choice at my favorite restaurants in portland, or.)
