haha! At work we use this stuff for wall panels in fast food restaurants. The factory guys hate dealing with it because it is so damn heavy.

first of all, I'd really want to see more pictures, but from the one you've provided, I can only a little bit of advice.

Like AT said, if you're concerned with the value of the table, get a pro to do it. other than that, wood glue may work, but it is fairly slow drying and you would need a good way to clamp the part in place while it dries (at least 4 hours to fully cure). from the looks of it, that's not an option. You could try some "gap filling" model glue. it's a 2-part application (glue and catalyst) but it dries almost instantly and is ridiculously strong. obviously, do it with some test pieces first before "going for the gold." as far as the visible gap is concerned, I would try to find a piece of wood that closely matches the table and then glue that in to place. I wouldn't use wood putty or trust wood glue to fill the gap.

good luck.

I really want to get a rug, but I don't want to buy a vacuum cleaner. Wood floors are so much easier to clean...

I almost moved in to an apartment where the refrigerator door would hit the island before it opened all the way. That attention to detail was indicative of the craftsmanship around the rest of the apartment and a major reason why I didn't want the place.

I like the paint idea too. I'd either do white to continue the ceiling or do a dark color, like a really dark brown and leave the ceiling white. I like the idea of leaving the texture somewhat visible and I think regular paint would allow that.

in order to get a good gold finish on metal, look into powdercoating it. I don't where to get this done for just a single piece like this. I work for a place that does a lot of powdercoating, but i don't think we take on individual projects like this. Powdercoat is going to give a very durable finish that can actually look more like gold than any spray will.

good luck and ignore the nay-sayers. Gold can work just fine and nobody asked for their opinions anyway.

i knew the wal-mart haters were gonna come out for this one. how did i know? i am one. wal-mart is not the place for furniture. if you're living on a budget, do without. if you can't do without, get creative. if you aren't creative, surf the internet or call your creative friends for ideas.

i get headaches just walking in those stores...

LauraII is correct - it's Corbusier and the seat is the Petit Comfy and the sofa is the Grand Comfy

It was revolutionary at the time for putting the frame of the furniture on the outside

Two of my friends and I went to school for Furniture Design and people are always surprised to discover that none of us have much furniture. One friend has a blow-up couch that keeps deflating and the other has some restaurant booth seats that were being thrown away at work (we make restaurant furniture, we don't flip the burgers).

The point is... we all learned long ago that it's much better to do without and wait for that one piece of furniture that is RIGHT. not cool. not trendy. not well-photographed. RIGHT. ...or maybe our standards are just too high.

Devyn - from what i've heard, if you had $3000 in 1967 you could either buy a couch or a brand new Ford Mustang. Furniture hasn't really gone up in price; our cultural value of it has dropped.

I hate being negative on these types of questions... but you may want to keep shopping. As much as I love the Cesca chair by Breuer, I doubt you're gonna get what you want by taking this on.

If you're set on doing this, I'd get the frame powdercoated and I'd use very light layers of spray paint for the back. If you can't powdercoat the frame, use spray paint made for metal for that too. Either way, you do NOT want to use the same paint for both parts and you don't want to paint them together. Above all, be patient and use a very fine grit sand paper, especially on the caning.

I voted 'hot' - If those are the only colors it comes in, and if it is uncomfortable, then 'not', but right now I am diggin' the curves.
