Two things I absolutely do on moving day - make the bed as soon as the truck is gone. That way we have someplace to crash when we're too exhausted later to make the bed (we haven't had to do the air mattress move yet, but same applies!). Then I unpack and set up/decorate one room to be completely useable and box-free. Usually the bathroom since it's only unpacking a couple boxes. It makes me feel somewhat less chaotic to know that one spot is DONE.

JP415373: The rug is by Surya, it's the "Continental".

Arroyo: Love that post from Decorno - I'd say I'm like 90% in agreement with her, so everyone should read that one too!

Hi Monicak, this is Maggie - the chair was actually my boyfriend's mom's that she bought in the 90's (still going strong when we sold it last year). So I don't actually know the brand, sorry!

The chandelier in the dining room is KILLING me. So gorgeous. Then the kitchen and master bedroom tie for my favorite room - love the green on the cabinets and the bead-board.

@kiacook Pretty sure it's about the store opening... this is the first West Elm store in Washington, let alone in Seattle. I know a lot of people locally are excited to shop the products in person without a long drive down to Portland.

The dimensions are fine as-is... what I'd really like is an upgrade to the wood.

@La in NYC: The window seat fabric is something I picked up at Joann fabrics ages ago. Not sure of the name, but I've seen it there recently. It's very affordable. The "Let Them Eat Cake" print is from etsy a few years ago... can't remember the shop, sorry!

@Emily Haan: Thank you! The window shades were a DIY project using regular vinyl blinds. I followed instructions I found on Little Green Notebook. Easy!

@Smellofsawdust: Oh, I would love to do butcher block counters (and a tile back-splash...). For us, for now, it's just not worth the cost when this isn't our forever-home.

@ofheartandcity: The two small square prints were from 20x200 and frames from Aaron Brothers. My housewarming gift for Ryan.

I've seen this done with vintage black and white pictures too - the quality is a little fuzzier obviously, but a really beautiful result!

Thanks smellofsawdust and E.I.F. for your nice comments about the kitchen - no plans to renovate (since we rent)! I'd just love to replace the linoleum floors and add more storage and counter space... the counters are laminate and I'd prefer something like butcher block. E.I.F., the roman shades were actually a DIY following instructions I found on blog Little Green Notebook. Adapted from regular vinyl blinds :)

Meredith - Yep!

NicoleinCO: They are from Pottery Barn. Not their lightest cotton drapes, the medium weight (can't remember the name off the top of my head). Good luck!

LizU - not too much traffic on the window seat yet. I don't think it would be a permanent solution - but as renters, we don't need it to last more than the next few years, which I think it will (most people just sit on our sofa or chair).

Liz Trinidad - the coffee table is from CB2 (a few years ago, but they may still have it).

Lychee: We try to keep most things wireless (printing, etc) but I must admit there is some cord mess here and there! Can't escape it totally!

emmelemm: It's a great rug - we've thought about getting a second one for the bedroom. It's nubby instead of scratchy. Softness was my bf's MAIN concern with the rug so we tested out a bunch (barefoot) and this was the winner! I'd recommend it, but we use the hose attachment to vacuum - pushing has damaged the deep pile. Something to consider.

emmelemm: The rug is by Surya (called the Continental). We got a big of a deal on it ordering to-the-trade but it's also available on RugsUSA.

audreymarie: The bar cart is vintage! I've seen several similar ones and at least one identical in my thrifting trips, so keep an eye out - it was under $50 (after gentle negotiating).

pgm86: Going slow (no rash design decisions) and not doing anything the other person hates is a good basic plan. Ryan cares most than most of his guy friends, but he's still more easygoing than I am... hmm, could be a good blog post!

eise0100: It does feel a bit feminine, doesn't it? Don't worry - he has total veto power and uses it. Funny enough, most of the large furniture was his (and his half of the office is much more manly, I promise!)

citipearl: Thank you! The posters over the sofa are both screenprinted concert posters bought at the concerts. The one on the right is Death Cab for Cutie, I think 2004. The one on the left is Belle and Sebastian's 2006 tour (that one I know for sure, as it was our first concert together!). Hope that helps!

j.martin: I think you're referring to paint colors? Office is Valspar's Winter Calm, dining room (with shelves and bar) is Benjamin Moore's Mocha Cream, living room I'm not sure - paint was up when we moved in, and bedroom is Olympic White Wisp (I think).

tmilan: My desk is the Parson's table from West Elm. You can find the For Like Ever poster at Village (http://www.vllg.com/products/For_Like_Ever_poster#panel=about-usage) which comes in and out of print.

More sources and diy projects can be seen on my blog: www.maggieroseonline.com. Thank you!

Thanks so much for your kind words about our window-seat! You can read more about picking the unit itself (Ikea!) here: http://www.maggieroseonline.com/2010/10/04/storing-vinyl/
