PAINT IT WHITE! It's a basement, and I understand light is a luxury.

You can then tone it down/colour it with your furniture, curtains, etc.

I have a Karlell FLY I scored on eBay and I think it would look lovely in your space, however you can't be very obsessed with cleaning as it attracts A LOT of dust. I got the bulb from IKEA and it was really inexpensive after all. I dust it with a humid cloth once in a while and it's alright (however not perfect).

If you don't want to worry that much about keeping your light fixture clean, I would go for a different shape instead of globe. Something like the Norm 69 might hide the dust better.

You can't go wrong with plain green.

Oh, the best thing to soundproof your apartment is time. When I first moved into my previous apartment on the top floor close to the lift (and the machine the keeps the lift moving) I literally panicked. After a couple of months, I couldn't barely hear it. I lived in that flat for almost three years and loved it.

It might be worth to mention that the wall I shared with the lift was in the living room, not my bedroom!

I would like to see the other side of the room as well, but by now, I would use the TV to divide the spaces (over an Ikea Expedit layed horizontally?). I would place the sofa on the small wall, the tv in front of it, and the dining table behind the tv.

Not sure if it's available in America though...
