Once I got better about distinguishing my wants from my needs (which is really about self-control), it became easier to walk away from things that could have easily been impulse purchases. I try to walk away from anything I don't really need, and if I'm still thinking about it when I'm done shopping for the day, I go back for it. I unload the dishwasher as soon as it's done so that the next time I cook, I can toss in utensils and prep tools as I go. Then when everyone is done eating, (your family, I wouldn't ask guests to do this) have them scrape and/or rinse their own plate and stick it in the dishwasher. Afterwards, there is very little left to do besides washing the cookware and wiping down the counters. Many hands makes for light work, and all that. What Is Your Dishwashing Routine?
