I would strongly recommend not using peat. I have used coir for years, and never had a problem with it. I would also recommend using organic seeds, they don't cost that much more and haven't been dipped in fertiliser. How To Grow Baby Lettuce |

I make a nasturtium pesto using the leaves and fresh seed pods. You can used nuts, parmesan depending on preference/allergies etc. Works nicely, and also used on a sandwich. Beyond Basil: Fresh Ideas for Pesto |

My flatmate was also a real migraine sufferer and cut out lots including citrus, which was major for her, but also dried beans, red wine, dried fruit, raspberries and much more... it did work for her, so take heart.
