hi i'm the one who submitted the credenza. As I mentioned in my question, my husband and I built the bar, it was our first time doing anything (perhaps a bit ambitious) but we absolutely love it. So there's no way we're making changes to that, It works for us, it works for our place, and all our family and friends love it.

As for the credenza, I knew there'd be some haters and some people who'd love it. I sanded it down because it just simply didn't suit our style, we did live with it for about 2 months, and at that point, we decided the tone of the wood just didn't suit us. Plus there was some damage to the veneer at the top and on the sides. the veneer is still all there, it's not all sanded down, it is actually pretty thick veneer they used.

When i went out to ryan's relics out in baltimore that sold all kinds of used furniture (ranging from MCM, Art Deco, antiques), i was actually tempted to trade in this piece for a different piece because the guy said that to him, the piece was probably only worth $125. he knew it was a saga and he said that the stars actually turn a lot of people off.

With that said, This is a piece that my husband and I plan on living with for the next 10 years. We wanted something solid and well built, and this suited us. We overall loved the lines of it. the handles on the piece are actually pretty beat up, but we're staying with them cuz i love the lines of them.

It sat unfinished for the past week, til the weekend, where we simply decided to stain the whole thing dark - jacobean. and it's looking amazing according to us. we're doing a satin poly over it because we simply don't dig the glossy stuff. it's working for us and it's gonna stay with us for the next 10-15 years at least! sorry to disappoint the haters.

I rarely ever comment, but this house -- I'm totally digging it. like if they had that out in the DC area - I'd buy it in a second!

I'd go with ethan allen - my sister has been through her couch and love seat with 2 little ones (ages 2 & 4), and 2 cats - one that likes to pee. and she's had hers for 7 years. I've had my couch for almost 4 (also from ethan allen), and i believe the warranty is for 7 years. and their customer service is amazing. plus it's not so cookie cutter with all the fabrics you can choose from.

i would say - they're sturdy. we use them as our every day chairs. but the lacquer chips off fairly easy. we've been noticing spots here and there. Basically wait til they go on sale, and buy them then. so if they break, you won't feel too horrible cuz you didn't pay full price. We got them last year i think right after christmas.

i third the frost one from ikea. I've had 1 for at least 5 years and it's been amazing in terms of how many pieces of clothes we put on it. and it folds fairly thin. we ended up buying a second one because we're so paranoid that they'll stop making that rack. it takes up very little space when we're storing it.
