I'm another one that will get on the scanning train. I would pick a really cool image or two, blow it up as big as it will go without looking bad, and printing on foamboard. You can hang with double-sided tape. It would be cool to do the entire Sam Cooke page. Or what about printing a bunch on regular paper and decoupaging the top of a plain black table? Really fascinating series and stunning final result. I'm dying to demo my soffets, raise the existing cabinets, and build a shelf like yours, but my landlord is not succumbing to my charms. Claire & Jeffrey's Kitchen: The Big Reveal Renovation Diary |

First off - great inspiration piece. Since it's your first apartment, I'm going to assume we're working with renter's white walls. I would add some floor to ceiling drapes in one of the lighter grey shades in the background, maybe with a tone on tone, subtle pattern. (Young House Love has a great tutorial on how to make your own.) I would then look for a simple-lined couch in darker grey, and add some throw pillows in the same fabric as the curtains, a large scale red/white print, and a small-scale red/white print. I'd look for rug in mostly red that incorporates a few other colors. Pull those colors in your other accessories, but avoid the red. Also, when accessorizing or chosing small accent furniture, I'd look for some black lacquer to bring out the color and style from your painting. Above all, have fun and take risks. Good luck! Most of my friends don't send cards, but I'm going to save the 3 or 4 I get from family until I have enough to make a wreath or tree shape on the wall in a few years. It will be the perfect way to decorate my tiny foyer. 15 Alternative Christmas Trees |

What about using some leather or leather-look vinyl cut to size and held in place with double-sided tape? There's a lot of historical basis for leather-topped vanities. If you wanted to get fancy, once it's in place, stencil a metallic border to replicate tooled leather. Good luck, you have a nice space. How To Cover Ugly Tile on Built-In Vanity? Good Questions |

I appreciate the the logic, but I want full-out, razzle-dazzle, guilded, glittering, CHRISTMAS! I did this my first year out on my own. For a cool effect, put the branches in something disposable and spray straight down with a metallic spray paint. You get a little sparkle without losing the natural look. Simple & Thrifty: Branch Christmas Trees |
