We decided to paint our TV room a warm black - it has no windows, but we added two bold accent rectangles in a warm golden color -edged with white trim. We painted our built in bookcases and built in component shelves the same gold and trimmed them with white. I have beautiful curtains that tie all the colors together. The room is probably one of our brightest with can lights and zone lighting. In the rectangles we've hung black and white large scale prints and canvas' to give them a purpose. I highly recommend black - it's a gorgeous color to work with and with the right tone makes it so rich looking.

I live in Indiana where farming is our schtick and I wish that we had half the movement the PNW has had!

We removed our disposal about a year ago- I use a mesh strainer. I hated it. I have a compost bin and all my scraps go there - we do use our dishwasher and run it every other day. We just purchased a new one - it's an energy star rated and I do a air dry to eliminate excess energy draw.

We totally keep magazines - we have special clear holders that keep them in tact and the kids have LEGO magazine and my husband keeps his home improvement publications. I don't need it, my daughter doesn't need it - I hate to be stereotypical - but the boys just seem to like sitting there. To each their own - they get removed monthly so I'm not too worried about their germ status. To each their own.

Love it - it might take a bit of time, but it certainly will have a big impact. We do a big clean up/clean out about twice a year. It's amazing how good it feels!

So much packaging can be recycled that it's easy to cut down on garbage. I've gotten our family of five down to two small white garbage bags a week. My kids bring home their yogurt containers from lunch because the school doesn't recycle and we use snack taxi- reusable bags for snacks to school and in the car. Limiting the amount of plastic baggies and such. Good luck - and keep it up!

I just did a post on this today - that storage set is cool - I just know we needed a variety of sizes for our LEGOS - some were mine when I was a kid and my kids are C-R-A-Z-Y about them so new sets join the family every birthday and Christmas. http://pennypickles.net/blog/2011/01/17/like-a-13th-century-monk/
Our new set up works for us and we spent less than $100 on the extra storage - go IKEA!

We used one of those bath sponges because our house just didn't have the storage for one of those ginormous baby baths. I would ring it out to dry and then lean it against the tub - so that air could get around it. After about 6 months we needed another one and then after that they were good to go on their own. I've had three - it's worked all three times and my total investment was less than $30 over the course of 6 years.

I am smitten with this - my daughter has a very large closet in her room - the hamster is doing overtime on the wheel in my head!

we call it a junk drawer - but it's anything but that. I have a dual level organizer. Our office is in the basement, my husband is a contractor so he keeps his tools with him. I keep a few handy things in this drawer so I don't have to run around the house when I need to take off the back of a toy and replace it's batteries. It has all the things I commonly need in one place. It is always organized and refilled when I run low.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything having a home - this is just a substation. ;o)

I sometimes wish that we still resorted to armoires for storage instead of closets - people wouldn't have nearly the struggle with clutter I think.

Love it - I also love that I painted a bed I found on the side of the road this color and then I find out it's the "it" color. It's a nice, rare moment:http://pennypickles.net/blog/2010/12/03/roadside-bed-makeovers/
