I love seeing that someone else is doing the stick & origami bird mobile. Almost 4 years ago when I was expecting my first child I decided to create a mobile for my son's room using a piece of mesquite branch from a tree in our backyard and assorted magazine & craft paper to create the origami birds. I loved the result so much that when we discovered we were expecting a little girl I began collecting pretty pages from fashion magazines and the like. Now we are expecting our third child and the piece of backyard mesquite is already drying waiting for me to create a third. The best part about this DIY is that it is relaxing to create and wonderful to lay down under and watch the birds flutter around. 100% I vote go with this one!!!

My husband and I found a cornflower blue and ivory patterned couch made by Norwalk at a consignment store for $200, the couch is comfortable and the pattern helps cover up the little spills that come with a 3 year old, 13 month old, 2 beagles, 2 clumsy parents and a baby on the way. We went for cost, style, comfort and character. You want to enjoy your home and the people in it not worry about the furniture!

Yes! When my husband and I bought our home almost 5 years ago we painted every room in varying shades of tan, and all of our furnishings & accessories were also either tan, khaki, white, brown or black. 5 days ago we purchased the most amazing cornflower blue and cream embroidered Norwalk couch from a local consignment store and this is just the most recent addition to our evolving colorful home. Sometime after my almost 3 year old turned 1 I started craving color, and we painted an accent wall in his room intense teal by Behr. Throughout we have been gradually adding yellow (my favorite color), blue and green in wall color, accessories and accents. It's not only that my color preference has changed but my entire style and that of my husband, he is even allowing my floral obsession to enter into the picture.

i love posts like this, because my husband and i are constantly "shopping in our home" for new and different ways to use what we already own. as parents of two young children on a tight budget we have to be creative-- but that does not mean we have to sacrifice our aesthetic. right now i am pondering removing everything from my living/dining room and starting from scratch- something about having a blank canvas can be so inspiring and as i am currently on maternity leave and spending quite a bit of time at home i am noticing all the little things i want to change.

We are expecting our second 2/21 and we knew when I got pregnant that we wanted to transition our son into a toddler bed before his baby sister was born so as not to create jealousy surrounding the crib. At 20 months, even though he was not climbing out of his crib we transitioned him to his toddler bed (by million dollar baby, great bed!) and honestly it was so easy (and I realize we may be in the minority here), he stayed in his bed until we came in to get him and talked to himself and his toys once he was awake. He is now 25 months and shows no attachement to the crib and when he gets up in the morning he knows to come straight to our room. 14 months is quite a bit younger than 20 months but if you have time it may be worth the experiment, as you will have to buy a toddler bed eventually anyway.
