Hey hey now, there are those of us who LOVE to eat but unfortunately our bodies don't show it; doesn't mean I couldn't share a thing or two about some good grub. Don't judge a book by its cover. :-)

@YoNella, I've read the whole article a few times and I don't see anything in there that states this is a temporary, photo-op-only placement. Like others, and having kids of my own, IMHO, over the crib doesn't seem like the best place to hang anything, but especially something composed of metal and glass, and especially after your baby starts to stand up in their crib and grabbing anything within reach (which will be in no time!) You should consider hanging it elsewhere in the room, safer but with the same dramatic and visual effect. Nice hack, tho!

Pleated Poppy did a similar thing with a lamp shade redo but she used a variety of bright-colored fabric and tied the fabric horizontal and covered the whole frame instead of 5% of the frame - looks WAY BETTER. I'm all for being aware of what sort of business practices you're supporting when you shop, but how do you know that that vintage piece that you found in a secondhand shop or on CL or ebay is free didn't originate from a company that may have followed the same practices or worse than those that you accuse Ikea of following? Just because it's not directly from a big box business anymore doesn't necessarily mean that it was responsibly produced and sold in the first place.

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all...

Just bc there's a comments section doesn't mean you're obligated to share a comment. And I'm sure these people aren't offering a tour of their house bc they care what AT readers think, or that they're going to change anything bc of what some reader commented. I think that's for another sort of post (the ones actually asking for advice/opinions). I don't understand all the negative criticisms that people like to offer here. If you don't like it, stop reading the post. And if you don't like it, and you continue to read the post, then that's on you; don't take it out on the homeowners, AT staff, etc.

And if you don't like the "direction" that AT is taking in posting house tours of homes larger than some arbitrary square footage that you think constitutes the "apartment" in Apartment Therapy, then STOP READING AT. Why do you keep coming back and then complaining that it's not what you thought you were getting when coming to this site? Seriously, do you think you're the one who's making or breaking this site? I'm pretty sure this site is supported by plenty of readers who don't feel the need to comment on every single post, and come here for the content and take away what they can from it, and don't complain/criticize when something doesn't exactly match *their* principles or *their* particular "design esthetic".

Get over yourself...

Regarding the double key deadbolts - My parents use one and we've never worried about getting locked in during an emergency because it's only locked when no one is home. That would be practical for those considering that kind of deadbolt. And when you *are* home, just make sure you always lock the door behind you when you come inside, every time. It might be a bit inconvenient if you are going in and out, but if you get distracted while inside, at least the door will be locked. I do this even when just doing laundry, starting the washer and then running in to get dirty clothes from bedrooms and such, or collecting clean laundry when switching loads (washer & dryer are out on the back patio). When I get home, I always make sure I turn the key to lock the doorknob after I open the door but before I pull the key out. That way it's locked without any extra steps. I think it's a good habit to have.

We had a pedestal sink in our tiny bathroom that still took up way too much room. We have a toddler who has a training potty and a step stool to reach the sink, plus her little tub that is regularly kept in the tub but sometimes has to come out onto the floor. We finally installed a wall-mounted sink and it opened up the bathroom so much! I would definitely choose the wall-mounted over the pedestal. As for the vanity sink, it would have made the bathroom feel a lot smaller. There are plenty of other storage solutions that don't necessitate a vanity sink in a tiny bathroom, nor clutter out in the open.

ok, stop hating on the color coordinated books. Just bc they're not coordinated by the dewey decimal system doesn't mean that the books were never read, and only there for display. How can you make a jump like that?

Having to wash dirty dishtowels doesn't help our drought situation either...

And for those who say there's always toilet PAPER to clean up the occasional icky dog/cat messes, it's still PAPER. Still going in the trash. Still being processed from trees that are grown and cut down for toilet paper. Don't hear any cries to give up toilet paper.

I don't think the tone of this post is to say "who cares" but rather, there are valid reasons for some to continue using paper towels, without being ashamed of it or having to feel guilty about it. I think the author is simply saying, this is why we use them, stop judging.

I also rather don't care for the tone of those who think that they have all the right answers because they are an Environmentalist.
