Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Examples of Steampunk Style in Home Decor? Good Questions

maybe you could use these somehow?

just came across a cog/nut home accessory at cb2
(it's on sale, so look soon, $11 each)

since they are made of iron, maybe you could use them
as bookends on a higher shelf (so baby couldn't reach and hurt themselves), or a doorstop? or just mount on the wall or place on a high shelf for decoration. maybe you can think of something more creative though...

i bought this chair for my first girl, and loved it. plan on using it with my second too, in a few months. we too waited on solid food till 8 months, but we did use it at the table before that, just so she could sit at eye level with us while we ate.

the best feature is the simple design. it's totally light and portable, which makes it easy to take over to a friends house if they don't have kids stuff around the holidays. the one piece molded seat makes it so so easy to clean the chair, many seats have cracks and several pieces, so food gets all stuck in there and gross. true, it is lighter weight, so just be careful to avoid the tipping issues. we never had any, but i can see how if you have two kids or more running around, they'd have to watch their feet and not trip on a leg, when baby is in it i could see that being something to watch out for.

at first when we used it (5-6 months) she could mostly sit up, and they didn't offer the cushions they do now since it was several years ago ( i think the price then was $15!). we just took a square throw pillow and put it behind her back, that stabilized her just fine since it made the seat area smaller and she couldn't flop around.

after our girl, it's made it through 2 friend's kids unscathed and now it's back to us again, so i can tell you it's pretty durable!

snacks and comfy clothes are right up there on my list....but
one most important item is toilet paper!!!

i couldn't believe the scratchy stuff they had in delivery and postpartum rooms, it's exactly the same tp as the rest of the hospital. bring something super soft and cushy, you will thank yourself!

also, extra pillows (i leaned on a big fuzzy one i laid on the counter and bed in the room while sitting on a ball) and a blanket or comforter from home make the hospital bed much more cozy. and don't forget your baby book, then the nurses can ink the baby's footprints on a page for you.

if you are an old school photography fan, you can actually use some non-computerized methods too. a very early photo process called gum bichromate printing mixes photo chemicals with watercolor paint, so the paint color you choose determines the color of the print you make. you can also layer colors and brush away sections of a second color to only show the one underneath. prints are done on thicker fibrous paper (usually gelatin sized paper) and not on slick photo paper.

another process called kwikprint adheres well to slick surfaces, anything from shower curtain plastic to glass. you order kwikprint paints in the color you want to use.
