HA! I work in the same alley as Berbere. In fact I have made furniture for them. Their showroom has some INSANE stuff. Really beautiful things. Couldn't say how much the basket would be. But it's worth a trip over to see. I can tell you that their stuff is not cheap. It is nice. From my point of view, those terms are mutually exclusive. I am sure most would argue with me though. Ya. Beeswax will make it nice and shiny. If you do that try to avoid the stuff made with turpentine. it's nasty. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Good Question: Green Wood Polish Solution? |

No parade, or rain. I'm not debating the relative price of the couch. Fact is $900 is a large enough chunk of money to mean something. I am fully aware that pillows do not always come with couches. They TOLD ME THE PILLOWS CAME WITH THE COUCH. Then didn't give them to me. Then laughed at me when I told them I wanted them. Then would not let me return the couch. I even asked to exchange for a different couch, and they wouldn't. They had my money and wanted me to go away. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | LA Store: The Sofa Company |

The sofa is ok. BUT, it has high sides with no padding, thereby making it uncomfortable without pillows. Their quality isn't too bad, but they are swindlers. It's really the principle of being treated like crap when buying a $900 couch that bugged me. Not cool. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | LA Store: The Sofa Company |

AAAA! I hate them! And I am really not a hateful person. They are really awful people there. I bought a sofa there. The staff had dressed up the $900 couch I wanted with these really cool pillows and lead me to believe that they came with it. Then when they delivered, there were no pillows. When I called them, the salespeople (who had been so sugary nice before) were totally rude, and even made fun of me for not knowing that the pillows weren't included. I told them I wanted to return it, and they said no way. Soooo ridiculous! It was still in the plastic, and they wouldn't let me return!!. Grrr. Anyhow, I just kept the couch and decided to not think about them anymore. PLEASE DON'T DO IT. go to HD buttercup in culver city and get one of their reeeeeallly cool old mod couches instead. HA!! I was just gonna email in and ask why you guys haven't done anything on them yet! We're on the same wavelength. Ms. Joan might be right about the $$ for some things there, but I just got a quart of really nice AMF low VOC paint for less than the stinky toxic stuff from the local hardware store. Just sift through a bit and you will definitely find some affordable purchases. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | livingreen in Culver City |

P.s. I have a really close matching piece I was thinking about putting on craigslist. If you're interested. It's also a TV stand, but it is a really cool vintage piece. Anybody? Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Gregory's Project: The Stereo Cabinet #7 - Moving On |

AWESOME! I love the front panels now! They are awesome. I am dreaming of a way to steal the idea. Re- staining those front panels would have been more of a pain in the ass than they were worth. The way I was taught to get rid of them is just to lay them out flat and let them dry. I usually hang them over the edge of my trash can. They will harden up a bit as they dry. Once it dries it is safe to throw out. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | How to: Take Care of your Danish Modern Score |

Ooo. Stain is just a real pain in the arse. Unless it is unlivable, I would leave it be. Re- staining old raw wood is a real gamble. You may really need to take off a lot of material to get that water damage out. Probably will be more agro than an orbital sander can take. Use a belt sander or a planer if you have one. And even then, there's no gaurantee it will take perfectly. You're welcome to bring it by my shop and I'll stick it in our big planer. It would be less messy for you. A word from the wise -- DON'T LET AN OIL SOAKED RAG SIT IN A LUMP AFTER USING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a very important thing. Oily rags generate heat, and will actually combust if left balled up. It's true, I've seen it myself. I make furniture, and it's happened to me. If you aren't around to put it out, it can be disastrous. (doubly bad if you work in a woodshop, like me!) Just find a place to lay them out flat. You don't need to get too anal about flattening out every bump, do take care to do it. I agree that the concept of this place falls short of the reality. But to me, the bigger issue is really short lifespan of this stuff. I make furniture for a living, so I pay attention to how it's built. It is similar to ikea in terms of construction. It is well made enough to hold together until you move to a new apartment. Then you will probably throw it away and get a new piece to take its place. The environmentalist in me screams. All those wasted trees for something that wont even last a decade. I like Thomas Moser's philosophy. If you make it out of a walnut tree that was 150 years old, make the piece strong enough to last 150 years. Hey all. Good advice. I'll add to the mix -- Swirl marks can still be seen even if you use ultra-fine grit. Very often the real culprit is moving the orbital sander too fast across the workpiece, which will leave the dreaded swirlies. And the worst part is they may be more or less invisible UNTIL you put a coat of finish on it. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Gregory's Project: The Stereo Cabinet #3 - Enter Sandman |
