Such a great use of the space! It feels cozy but still gives you plenty of breathing room...I love seeing fellow Chicagoans living in style :)

I love the "think like a photographer" bit of advice. As a blogger myself, I find myself editing almost too much, to the point that I now have to go back and fill in some of the blanks I've left! I think seasonal rotation is the key to keeping things fresh and showcasing your more precious items.

Love this post! I've always done my best to make a rental feel like home so paint, along with a few DIY furniture rehabs are usually my first tricks but the smallest thing - good, comfy bedding - is a great place to start!

Hahaha, I love this post because I find myself doing the same things! It's funny that as a blogger myself, I have no problem having my home out in the open for strangers but when my parents come over, I double (and triple) check to make sure that the PG-13 things in my life are tucked away!

I absolutely love this....I've been working on DIY projects for the past few months to make my rental feel like home. There were times during the process where I was over all the work but the way that my space makes me feel when I open my apartment door has made it worth it!

Really interesting! I was born in the 80s as well so it's fascinating to see what my peers have collected, especially with all of the conversation surrounding how our generation is becoming independent and moving out on our own at a later stage in life than young adults previously have.

My favorite is definitely the Radha and Krishna painting. Being of Indian descent, I've been trying to incorporate some Indian inspired decor into my living room without getting kitschy.

I would rearrange the chair and position it where the ottoman is, angled towards the sofa and then place the ottoman in front. A larger, more colorful rug would anchor the two pieces as well as a smallish coffee table. How about plum as an accent color?
