I picked soda but every now and then I will refer to it as a "soft drink." That's normal right?

I'm a woman bourbon drinker myself. I'm a native Kentuckian and there is nothing unusual about ladies drinking mint juleps where I come from. Now I live in DC and my other Kentucky girlfriends here all drink bourbon. It still surprises guys when I order a bourbon on the rocks though--even my husband had to stop getting it with water so he wouldn't be shown up :-)

I usually provide all the food for our annual holiday party, or if we are actually hosting a party for someone like an engagement party. However we've been hosting (as in providing our apartment as a venue) a few parties lately for friends' birthdays, or welcome home cook-outs, and we've made those potluck.

This sounds sort of harsh, but just because a party is at my house doesn't mean I should have to pay for all the food/booze for a bunch of people who I do not know. Yes, I will decorate, make a playlist, and provide more food than anyone else, but it's great to get some help. I do themes as well. The most recent was a 30th birthday wild west party so I asked people to bring cowboy/Southwest/Mexican dishes. It worked out great!

The dresser in my bedroom that originally belonged to my great-great-grandmother. I had a bad dream before a move once that it fell out of the back of a pick-up truck, and someone had to shoot it because it was dying. Um...I am a little attached.

My bedroom is what I really need to work on and since we aren't "there" yet in the cure I tell myself I can let it go for now and it just keeps getting worse! So I think I'll have to to a little work there this week/weekend just to keep my sanity.

I haven't had cable for years but I still watch TV. With a newer TV or a digital converter box and bunny ears you can get beautiful FREE over the air digital TV. And because I have an HD TV, the signal is HD when stations broadcast in HD. I think a lot of people have had cable for so long they don't know they can do this. I figure if there is something I can only watch on cable, I just watch it online or at the gym.

Yes. I bought a new modern leather sofa (Ikea Sater) recently after lots of frustration with cat hair on my old sofa. While the new sofa was much more my style, it opened up a can of worms. All of the sudden I had to move the mid-century reupostered chair from my grandparents into the living room because it went so well with the new sofa, and then my overstuffed, slipcovered loveseat looked frumpy, so I had to replace that with a new more modern looking loveseat...now I need new pillows, something to go with that teal lamp...etc. etc. The good thing though is that now when I walk into my living room room I'm so happy with what I see. But sometimes a new purchase ends up costing a lot more than it's initial cost!

I love the Rockhouse! I went there in 2005. While it is a resort you can feel good knowing that they practice sustainability, are involved in the community and treat the staff well. it is also affordable. We also enjoyed getting out and experiencing some of the local restaurants near the hotel. If you look at their TripAdvisor ratings you'll see that pretty much anyone who stays there is equally as enthusiastic.

I think you really need some color in there. Color would look nice over the couch and you need something big. Buy two or three big canvases and paint them bold colors--maybe pulling from your oriental rug. Hang them side by side as panels. A plant would really warm the rooms up as well. Some tall dried grass or sticks would look great in your pot near the dining table.

I do love the look of the American flag hanging in front of an older home. My grandparents have always had one, and when I worked on the Hill I had a flag flown over the Capitol in their honor and gave it to them as a 63rd wedding anniversary present. My grandparents are very liberal and very patriotic at the same time. Great comments Molly Margarita!

I've used Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap since childhood as a handsoap. I even tried brushing my teeth with it once...wouldn't recommend that.

Wow. What a wonderful transformation. It looks terrific! I too have felt that my room is kind of dark and creepy and I have had trouble sleeping. I keep trying to improve it but it never quite feels right. Great job and and what an inspiration!

When you read design magazines is the furniture in any room ever a set? Never! It should look good together but I don't think it should all match.
