Ewww if your cat peed on an area rug why wouldn't you clean underneath it as well? It's not a carpet, it moves, did they just pat it dry? That doesn't sound very sanitary or hygenic to me!

I don't have much to say about Margaret Russell (same thing in every Elle Decor) or Jonathan Adler except that he's somewhat overrated. Meant in the nicest way possible, his style is just a re-hash of the 60's & 70's, nothing new or inspirational, though I do like some of his more classic and playful pieces. Kelly Wearstler on the other hand is truly gifted. Whether you like her style or not, she is brave & takes risks with her work. Though there is a hint of hollywood regency, it is a style all her own. It would be interesting if they replaced some of the judges with more reputable, influential designers, who would you pick? For now, I'll keep watching b/c of Kelly :)

You can't "enjoy the aesthetics of a place" that once had slaves? Wow then you probably just gouge your eyes out b/c hello, this is America honey, there was slavery all up and down the East coast in every big city at some point, so essentially most historical buidlings, homes, schools were witness to it. Furthermore, the post was about the ARCHITECTURE of the place, which was at the time very new and forward thinking. It's unfortunate that you are so narrow minded in your appreciation of history & of design.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen! This is ugly, plain and simple.

I saw it in person at their showroom last week, and trust me, it is a magnificent piece of furniture & art. Seriously, just stunning in person, this image doesn't do it justice.

Look like a dorm/post-college living to me. There's something sad about the space.

Make sure you have the proper equipment, a nail remover & stapler which you can buy at an upholstery store. Examine the piece & start pulling out staples (which you will begin to find) carefully. Once you have the fabric off you can remove padding, cushions, etc but it may be a good idea to document each level/step with a cameral so you have a reference to go back to when reconstructing. Do not cut the fabric, use the old fabric as a template to cut your new upholstery. Then it's just a matter of following the steps you used to take it apart, but going backwards of course. You may also want to get a fabric stretcher (a little tool that has metal teeth that grip the fabric so you can pull it tight and then staple it down). I don't know if your ottoman requires any sewing but if you're not adding the skirt, it shouldn't. Ottoman's are fairly simple to reupholster. You'll learn as you go along, just be patient! :) Good luck!
