I love that y'all are fearless enough to show your mishaps. It it much more encouraging than everything else combined. (And that's saying something because everything else is downright obsessively compelling).

I like the a-frame best.
For the Murphy, I would mount a mirror on the underside of the desk so that, when it's folded away, it would be a wall mirror and not just a wooden box on the wall. :)

I just did this with a navel orange. It worked great! The navel orange has a giant natural "wick." :) And the orange is quite large and lovely and I expect it to burn for a long time. It held at least a 1/4 cup of olive oil.

I like the wood in the new pic, but I don't like the pattern at all. It is way too busy. It wouldn't let your eye go anywhere else in a room. I can understand wanting to spruce up the drab. But this does not look fresh, in my opinion.

First choice: Bantam. Second choice: Spencer. I much prefer the one long back cushion to a split one. It adds to the long, low look. The one row of tucks on the Bantam adds to that too, as does the absence of a third row of legs.

I think this is a MAJOR transformation, especially for near-zero budget. The overall look of the place is VASTLY improved.

And while I'm not crazy about the copper color either, I think it does WONDERS as a big, long horizontal to make the room instantly appear longer and wider. With everything else whited out, you can't help but run your eyes down that looooong stripe very first thing. I think it's brilliant.

I had a thought about those tell-tale country grooves in the cabinets, though. Couldn't you just fill them with spackle if you're going to paint them anyway? At least have a flat door and be rid of that awful groove everyone is trying so hard to ignore.
