There are too many things out on display, which make it hard to focus on anything. Lose some of the chairs, try to get a larger bookcase to replace the other small ones (consolidate).
Get nice storage boxes so the little stuff you use is put away out of sight when not in use. The white lamp might look good in the corner where the desks are. Move the little white pedestal table to the corner between the couches. Do you really need the full length of the L shaped desk? If one side can be removed it would save lots of room and you could put it where the pedestal table had been. Basically, first of all declutter/organize. Also put some art work up on the walls so they guide the eye up.

Also, just because you inherit something, you do not need to keep it if you don't like it. Mom had me look at family heirlooms and if I didn't want an item, she sold it on eBay and made herself some $! She is very happy that she now has less clutter too.

I've adopted the one thing in/two things leave plan. Also, what a writer referred to as the "catch and release" program. StuffI don't need or want anymore either goes to trash, charity or to the stack of stuff for a yard sale. I try to price the yard sale items as they are added to the stack. If we decide not to have a sale, the items go to Goodwill by the end of summer.

My Aunt's canning closet-tucked under the basement stairs with a pull string light and the golden colors of the canned Ball jars. I still tell her that were there a natural disaster, her canning closet would be where I'd seek shelter.
A friend whose family had a bright and sunny room upstairs designated just for playing pingpong. The only big item in that room was the pingpong table.
High school friends who lived in Arts/Crafts style homes. One home had blue wallpaper with a bird background and a sleeping porch. Another had beautiful oak built in glass door cabinets and a huge claw foot dining table in the dining room.
My childhood homes were all built post 1960.

What Impressed You About Other Homes As a Kid?

My mother used to clean house for a 93 year old elderly lady once a week. The lady tidied up her home every night before bed. Mom said that the cleaning was her job and the lady didn't need to tidy up. The lady's response was "Well, if I pass away in my sleep I don't want the people to see my home and think I was a messy person". I try to put away things when done using them, put clothes away and keep the house vac'd and dusted daily. It stops chores from becoming overwhelming(especially ironing and laundry).

One dog sleeps on bed year round, other dog only on cold winter nights. Neither is allowed on the couch-though they keep trying. They are 45 and 65 lbs. each and think they are lap dogs. Pop crates have to be put on seats of couch so they don't get up on it while no humans are home. By the way Febreeze supposedly has some chemical in it that can be harmful for pets to breathe.

In Seattle they are tearing down old buildings and putting in megacondos or evicting renters and turning apartment buildings into condos. Property taxes are getting very high. Many renters have had to leave the area due to new high rent or no available apartments. I am a landlord, with one rental unit. Trying to keep the property as long as I can afford it. We love our neighborhood but feel we are being priced and taxed out of it.

The area below the teak shelf-between tub curve and wall is dead space. Can you get a piece of laminate cut to mimic the curve and use it as a shelf somehow?? If you get a light shade of laminate the bottles would look very nice there. and better in scale than where they are now. A bamboo blind would be affordable and look good. You could hang it midway so you still can see the bamboo outside. A folding bamboo stool would be nice to use for a book when needed. You definitely deserve a new bath mat. What about hanging sheers on the door that leads to the kitchen?
