I think the tulip chairs were worth it. They cost about $200 each delivered. They feel very sturdy. The bases are some kind of very heavy metal with a white powdercoat and I think most people would have to look under the seats to know they're not the real thing. The seats only wobble a bit when you've spun them around on the base. You can spin them all day and they ever feel like they're about to come off the base...it's just something about the way they're screwed in to the base that makes them loosen a bit when they're first turned. You can tighten a screw in the base to make them not wobble, but as soon as someone rotates the seat again they'll wobble again.

Thanks! You guys (and girls) are all so sweet. Clearly I was a little overly worried that a bunch of design snobs would be on here ridiculing me for buying almost everything at chain stores. To Shannon, who said she wished she could afford to create a place as lovely as mine...I never pay full price for anything and I could show just about anyone how to furnish a room for under 1,000 bucks. I know that's still a lot of money for most people, but trust me, there are plenty of ways to get a bargain on new furniture. The bed set that's in my master bedroom is currently on sale at world market. The bed was on sale for $399 as I'm writing this:

http://www.worldmarket.com/Furniture/bedroom-furniture/bedsets/Geneva-4Poster-Queen-Size-Bed/lev/4/productId/2931/Ne/1100001/sectionId/2868/N/1100055/categoryId/1100055/pCategoryId/1100054/gpCategoryId/1100002/Ns/NEW_ARRIVAL_FLAG|1||CATEGORY_SEQ_2903|0/index.pro

If you sign up for World Market's email newsletter, you'll get a coupon within a few days and I think it's for 15 or 20% off. The whole bed set is really nice, solid wood...It's as nice as anything you might get at Pottery Barn, but you could probably pick up the bed, the dresser and two nightstands for under $800 at the moment. Just keep your eyes open for sales at your favorite stores and don't be afraid to ask if the model on the floor is for sale.
