Truly wonderful transformation. Looks sprucy-blue/green to me which I like. Polka dots nice touch of whimsy. And I concur that making your own doors to unify really pulls it all together. Kudos!

If you Google the exact phrase "International Lamp Corporation", you get a hit for a listing on page 372 in a book called: N.E.L.A. Bulletin, Volume 9, Issue 6; By National Electric Light Association. [must have been scanned by the Google Books project ].
Lists that company as in Chicago, Ill. in 1922. Maybe that can narrow your research.

Have to say my gut says 'how boring'. For me, the entire fun of building a fort in childhood was the process of construction. Procuring the pieces, figuring out how to put them together, having it fall apart and doing again. I'm sure a certain amount of time was spent playing in the final fort, but most of the fun was in making it. Although this version is simple and clean for the parent, I think it takes away most of the Joy and Imagination for the kid.

Very interesting to see how many folks are parsing what constitutes 'media' and/or are saying 'I will do it tomorrow' or 'sometime soon' because a favorite program is on this evening. I admit I am just as addicted as most who grew up with TV, radio, computers etc. so I see this night will be a challenge.

Looks like the items in the 'toss' box really could go to the 'donate' box. Are they broken or unusable?

Definition of MINDFUL: bearing in mind : aware . Synonyms: alive, apprehensive, aware, cognizant, conscious, sensible, sentient.

Add a letter and you get MINDFULL - which is where most of us probably live! Working on getting to the first definition. mb

fyi - if you go to the Sunset link they state: Start with a branch—such as manzanita—with a graceful, intricate silhouette. Suspend it with nearly invisible fishing line from C hooks screwed into the ceiling. Then just add the ornaments.

Best online resource I have used for all things dried and botanical is: www.nettletonhollow.com/

Prices will be a bit steeper than buying from a local provider or going out into the woods yourself, but they offer many global items that you can't find otherwise. They also have a blog from which you can peruse for wonderful ideas.

Most of my favs are already mentioned, but I don't think anyone mentioned the TED Conferences yet. Maybe they are not 'podcastable' for later use.... They deserve a shout out though as they are superb. If you have never listened to any of the speakers, try the one called: Jill Bolte Taylor's stroke of insight. Just an amazing TED Talk.

Does anyone know of a company that would take your own design and 'print' to a blank iPhone case [4 series and/or 3GS]? I would love to be able to create my own one off versions to give as gifts.

Totally identify with the occasional 'guilt' of not tapping in to all that my current city/local offers. I have lived in extremely rural, isolated areas as well as intense urban cities.

These day I just aim to allow myself to say "hmmm, what do I really want to do right now?" More often than not it is to chill in my garden and local neighborhood. If I follow that rule of thumb, then there is no disappointment of 'missing out' on the other activities.

I have used the IKEA Ivar series pine shelving to create a freestanding/bookcase/workstation/room divider in my apt. Creates a similar look as the one shown above in picture 8. Affordable and easy to adjust the look depending on which width of shelving you choose and how tall the 'ladders' are. Another quick and inexpensive way is to take 3 or more ladder type pieces and attach them to each other via the side rail with hardware that allows them to bend both ways. Stand them up and arrange in zig-zag shape; then throw a large fabric piece over them to create opacity. Wish I had pics to share - but hopefully the concept comes across.

I have lived alone in a sweet apt for the past 12 years. I find I am more connected to local friends and community neighbors than ever before. I am more outgoing and strike up conversations with strangers and passersby. Similar to how when travelling solo one can have more intimate connections because you don't have the insular companionship of a constant sidekick. That said, living with roommates is fine too and did plenty of that in college days. At this point - I really enjoy the personal freedom I have in my own 700sf world!
