This space is screaming for color. Paint color to be exact. That space above the cabinets may bother you because overall there is no color or anthing interesting going on. Use a couple of complimentary colors or various shades of one color. One behind the bar stools, another on the kitchen walls and make the small wall with the clock and the end of the bar another color. Have fun! Creative Ways To Fill Space Above Kitchen Cabinets?
