Wow, tough crowd. I think the after is definitely an improvement. Kudos on tackling the job yourself--I'm always too scared to attempt something that large and difficult. I like the fact that you left the frame a little worn and beat up.

suziegoombs, you did make great strides--and while closets and organizational stuff may not be the most exciting to document, lets be honest, the other rooms can't work without the behind the scenes stuff like closets being "cured" too!
Good luck with surgery, and take some much-deserved downtime while you recover!!

Aw, thanks Jen64, that's so sweet!

I hope I'm not too late in posting this...
So, I fell off the face for a bit, and I've been floating out in the atmosphere, but I think I've finally come in for a (temporary) landing...
I'm in the "will be done" category as well. I've gotten most of the big things done...painting, lighting, furniture arranging, but I've still got several details to attend to.
I've finally posted some photos of my room in it's current state, and while I'm definitely not finished, I have to say I'm super happy with it!! After getting the arrangement of furniture done, I went to bed thinking "this room is going to be so nice to wake up in tomorrow" and I was right--I can't really describe how awesome that feeling is.

So here's my latest photos, and as I said, it's not done...but I've gotten a lot farther than ever before. Thanks AT!!
cure After (but not done!)

As far as nominees, Its really hard to pick one as well. The people who motivated me the most and kept me going with their comments and inspiration were suziegoombs, Alana in Canada, and Colleen (CQ in DC) and the people who's personal cures impressed me the most were AndreaU and Alana in Canada...So I guess since she falls into both categories, I nominate Alana in Canada too!!

Thanks for all the motivation and help everyone--you guys really are what kept me going (and will keep me going to completion!)

Ok,
so I am behind...technically. I mean, we're supposed to actually paint next week, right? But I'm going to be soaking in some sun in the Virgin Islands all next week (don't hate me--I need it!!) so I went ahead and moved our furniture away from the walls, un-installed the bedside shelves and spackled the resulting holes. I bought some Harmony primer too.
I'm going to try to prime our bedroom before I leave, so that when I come back I can get straight to painting my color--which I've had a sample of on the wall for a week now, and I LOVE it!!
I haven't posted any pictures, unfortunately, but I will get to that later today.
I feel behind cause I haven't actually executed some stuff yet, but I've been planning for all of it--i've finalized a list of purchases to make, and realized that some things, like reupholstering my chair may have to wait (for financial reasons). I've made a budget, etc.
I just have to pull the trigger on a lot of it...when i get back from vacation.
I know I can catch up...just feels like i'm stuck in a holding pattern. I can't exactly order all my furniture, bedding, etc, right before I leave town and I don't have enough time to do my painting before then either...so...
I have a plan of attack for when I return, but for now, its just going to have to seem like I'm not really moving forward.

I only buy plants that are on the "nontoxic list".
I've also found that my cats really only like to chew on long,
stringy, wispy-leaved plants...but maybe my cats are just weird. :)
I've bought non-toxic, hearty plants and they've survived--they've been nibbled on a bit now and then, but once the spray bottle comes out the cats remember that it's not worth it anyway.

mine sits where my dining area would be if there wasn't a bike there. I've been looking for a good wall/ceiling mount option, but i also don't have tons of space on any wall to put a mount.

plus, a tornado came through our city two weekends ago and a large amount of damage was done very close by, but we were spared...I'm starting to wonder if I'm being told to move out of Georgia.

Vertigo, it's easy when you think of the alternative...all our stuff could be bits of charcoal at this point. I'm also operating on about 3 hours of inconsistent sleep and i started drinking wine about 3 hours into the clean up...that may have something to do with it. :)

Thanks for the kind words..
Alana, we've been offered several places to stay from our friends, but so far we've needed to be there to let the restoration crew into our place. I've been told we may need to have the dehumidifier running for a few days, in which case we may need to take our friend's offer...our "sleep" last night really wasn't very restful (with 3 huge machines running all night long).
They're using an "air scrubber" to get out the smell--I'm hoping it'll be completely gone soon. In the meantime, I'm laundering everything I can.

I've got an amazing de-cluttering motivator...you ready?
First the apartment next to yours has to catch on fire, then their sprinkler go off and then fire department comes and hoses the apartment down, and then, wait for it... your apartment gets flooded!
Its crazy the speed in which you can de-clutter your place when everything touching the floor gets wet.

I think I'm delirious from lack of sleep (hence the sarcasm, sorry); We had industrial sized dehumidifiers, air scrubbers and floor fans running in our place all night. So, yeah, our place got flooded...but at least it didn't burn.

The downstairs needs some serious cleaning (our floor is dry now, but sticky..ugh) and our place smells like smoke and burnt plastic still, but nothing was destroyed except a few rugs that I'll be submitting a claim for (yay for renter's insurance!)

And amazingly, our bedroom upstairs (the one i'm doing my one-room cure on) is completely UNharmed!

Thank goodness for not-so-small miracles. :)

On the cure note..I've made a list of things to buy. And I've decided to go with a solid grey fabric for the chair (an upholstery weight) and make a pillow of the amy butler fabric I was considering. This will solve my worry about it being the wrong weight and will help keep my room from having competing warm and cool tones. I'll be updating my blog and flickr with the latest today.

I've been revising my style tray and I'm solid on my room color, but I'm struggling with my chair fabric.
I like it (a lot), but two things are concerning me...One is that I'm pushing too many warm colors into my primarily cool bedroom scheme. My other concern is that the fabric I've been looking at is "mid-weight" cotton. Technically, its not in the upholstery or home dec category. So, can I use it for upholstery? Does anyone have experience with this issue--using a mid-weight cotton rather than an actual upholstery weight fabric to recover a chair?

I've been behind...life has been getting in the way!
I've posted my "done" stuff on my blog, and on flickr...

I'm narrowing down a shopping list and setting my budget--I know I should have done that by now, but I've been avoiding it. :)
I mapped out a new floor plan, but I'm insecure about it...if you read my post on my blog you'll see--I understand the concept of flow, but I have trouble applying it.
I also edited and hopefully crystallized my style tray.
This is the point when I always get nervous, second guess my ideas and water everything down and do nothing....so any feedback is appreciated!

I'm a little late with checking this week, but I thought I'd go ahead and at least say that I'll have more posted on flickr and my blog later today. I'm in the middle of refining my style tray and mapping out a new floor plan. And i need help deciding on fabric for my chair!! I'll post my two options on my blog, the passage unsettled, in a bit..any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking at fabric for my chair for SO long (long before i even started the cure) and I've just never been able to decide.
I'm actually really looking for a good chevron stripe fabric to use, but haven't seen any. There's an Amy Butler "rittzy stripe" fabric, but it's a little too busy for me.
Anyone seen any good chevron strip fabrics (that aren't upwards of $40 a yard?)

Hi everyone,
My bedroom has never been what I wanted it to be, so I'm curing it! This is my first cure as well, and I'm excited and a little intimidated. My main problem is committing to one idea--I have too many. I buy fabric i never use and collect paint swatches for paint i never buy!
I'm hoping with a little guidance I can settle upon a plan for my lackluster bedroom. I want it to be inviting and stylish and not overly matchy..it needs to have personality and be someplace that I actually want to spend time--that's my main goal.
My flickr photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidneys_cure/
I'm going to be looking for some helpful guidance to edit down my ideas and make my room a reality!
