I get a good feeling from this place. Actually, I suspect the photos don't do it justice. I am sure walking into this apartment in person, you would get a real sense of atmosphere.

Century Finds is now stocking some of the nursery prints, shipped direct from the US.

IKEA actually does have a range of frames to fit these prints. Or, if you don't have IKEA near you, they would fit (snugly) into an 18X24 size frame. Another option would be to use a bigger frame with a custom mat. In my opinion, worth the effort :-)

Don't IKEA do slipcovers for some of their couches? Maybe you could find one to fit?

Otherwise, it seems to me that you could fashion slipcovers for just the arms. I remember old people always had them when I was growing up - but if you made or had them made from some sort of modern or funky fabric they could look great (as if you had done it on purpose to jazz up the couch!) - and luckily the style of couch lends itself to a look like this.

I am thinking a rectangular slipcover which fits over each arm, reaching down just a little bit longer than the seat cushion so you can tuck it in a little on the inside... If you know anyone who can sew they should be able to do this for you no problem, otherwise you could maybe try Alchemy at etsy.com, where you can post requests for custom items.

Some examples to show what I mean , but they would have to be longer and funkier, or you could always go for red:

I always had a front loader in the house growing up. My parents had the same one for 25 years and the only part that ever needed replacing on it was the door hinge. I remember my father explaining that it was a choice between replacing the door hinge every 10 years or a smelly washer.
I agree, it is not the washer which is the problem, but the fact that most people in the US are unfamiliar with them.

I leave the door and the drawer open on mine and wipe them out when I remember. I have never had a problem with smells. I did have a huge problem for the couple of years I had a top loader though, so I don't think the smell issue is limited to front loaders.

As for children playing with the machine - I have three young kids and honestly don't see it as an issue. It's not an inviting place for a child in the first place, then there would have to be two children involved (on to get in, who would have to be a baby, one to close the door)... in the end it's a question of supervision. When I googled it the only description I could find of a washing machine accident involved a top loader.

Whoops! I started off thinking the "before" photos were "after" photos! There I was thinking "there's no accounting for taste" :-)

Very beautiful, I too would love to get a ballpark budget for each bathroom - I have three of my own to do at some point and don't dare even think of the price.

I have one of those IKEA bowls too and that was the first thing that caught my eye... Then I thought, maybe they aren't IKEA after all but the originals IKEA copied?

We have a window exactly like this in our bathroom.

Unfortunately we live in suburbia and it is overlooked by the neighbors, so it has heavy textured glass you can't actually look out of.

OK, on second thoughts, not *exactly* the same ;-)

Where was the answer "Not, it looks like someone just bled all over it"? I am another one who thought it was just seriously dirty.

I agree with the above posters, area rugs are not going to hide it, so unless you can afford to totally cover up or rip up the carpet, I would embrace it.

A long time ago, well before orange came back into fashion, we moved into a 70's time warp apartment. We were not allowed to redecorate so there was nothing I could do with it except go all out and throw sheepskins all around, 70s furniture and art on the walls, etc etc . If I had tried to hide it, it would have looked awful. In the end I got so many compliments that I count it as one of my more sucessful decorating attempts...

At least here you seem to have been blessed with a color which is considered more or less "of the moment"...

bgball's advice about jewel colors seems really valid. With a little imagination you could maybe use that carpet to create something really special :-)

Funny, the yellow and grey theme has been going through my head for weeks now. I am about to paint my dining room that yellow... But that cover would go great in the bedroom too!

Surely I can make one for a few dollars? A box of pins, a bud vase from IKEA, a lamp socket with an LED bulb?

That's if I wanted one... in my opinion it just looks messy.

I know how it feels. I once lived in an apartment where the *carpet* throughout the apartment shed like that. For 8 months. Until I left.
It was kind of embarassing having anyone over, furballs everywhere, it always looked as if I hadn't vacuumed for months.

I love it!

I was once lucky enough to live somewhere where my bed was enclosed, and I loved it, so warm and cozy. I have always dreamed of recreating that.

You have a great sense of style, and I was also pleasantly surprised at the sources... I have questions about the curtains, as I have been looking to do similar with my windows. What does the top look like? And do they reach all the way down to the floor?
