could have been way cooler if she just cleaned it up or went with a vintage colour. maybe a bright teal aqua. so boring now.

Before & After: Michelle's Industrial Jewelry Chest

ive had a karlstad and a kivik.
i didnt like the karlstad much, wasn't that comfortable and after a month or two all the cushions sagged and it looked really old. the chaise pillow would also slide down non stop which was kind of annoying.
now i have a kivik and its really comfortable and the cushions are thicker so theyve held up better. i did get this in white because it was the cheapest option so i would save up for whatever one you really like. BUT ive washed it easily and even blood has come out of it so i cant complain.

my boyfriend and i love working together to find pieces we both love to put in our home. luckily we both have very similar style so finding pieces we both agree on isnt too hard. although sometimes he does pull the "i dont care about that stuff" when hes not in the mood. we have an agreement that we both have to love the item or it doesnt come home.

I say paint your fire place either white or black but if you do white do not keep white walls. Too much white. Take that crazy shelf down from the middle. It doesn't work there, not that style and not all across anyways. Antique the white if you choose that. It would look awesome all rustic.

This room is very symmetrical which is boring to me. One pillow on each side, one lamp on each side, one sconce. Blah. Seems too placed and not fun or inviting, comfortable or layered.
I think rooms should look like you've added things that you loved not just things that all "go together" Now I'm not saying go all eclectic and weird because that's not obviously your style but it seems too placed.
Add a few more pillows, maybe in a bolder red or a different pattern or two, don't have two pillows of each pattern. Keep the two flowers and the others should be different.
Throw the throw on the couch instead of neatly placing it on the arm rest, it goes undetected and doesn't say come cozy up on here. If you add more pops of colour with the pillows and have the red throw be more obvious I think that the slip cover wont be boring, it will just be neutral which is what you want. It's easier to change up little decor items with spray paint then buy an entire new slip cover when you get bored of the colour or trend you've added.
Your art is awesome but awfully low and not enough. Add a few more pieces and make it A symmetrical. Three is always good in design but the way you have them all set side by side makes it boring. Spray paint your side table RED! Add some family pictures or little knick knacks, add some items to the coffee table. Coffee table books, a cute ceramic animal, a box for your remotes. Keep the lamps but maybe move one into a different room and add a table lamp to the side table. Get rid of or change the sconce's.
You don't have to start over, work with what you have, update some and bring in little decor items you have in other rooms, get rid of what you don't like and layer what you love.

i would suggest slip covers for the chairs, ones that go to the floor. it will really make the chairs look different and more expensive. it will also add excitement to the pine table. i would also suggest a large piece of art. what i have done for cheap art is taking a large frame from ikea and adding wall paper/wrapping paper underneath. it looks really awesome and you can change it often for very cheap. maybe some sort of thin buffet table that fits on the blank large wall. you can add decor items, pictures or flowers.

it definitely makes most sense for the bed to be in that alcove. while in a studio it is super hard to really make your bedroom private with lack of walls; having it in that corner farthest away from anything almost makes it private.

if your table is small enough i think its best to go right next to the kitchen, beside the bathroom door. that way its an obvious kitchen area and it doesnt seem like your eating in your bedroom. maybe not right up against the wall but whatever works best.

the couch would work almost in the centre of the room facing the 22 foot wall where your tv could sit. if you get a slightly low back couch and a slightly high tv stand (i wouldnt suggest mounting it because, you are renting and who knows if you can, also the cables will be hanging down the wall and most importantly its over 100$ for a wall mount which you cant enjoy like as super awesome media cabinet with tons of storage) and you can definitely see the tv from your bed.

if your low book shelf is skinny enough i would put it near the front door. that way you can still use it for books and such but it can also be a landing area for your keys and what not.

if you like to mix up colours and textures to a room then i suggest going for the circular table. it will switch it up from the rectangle couch, tv, windows and bookcase. if you add a round vase with flowers to the coffee table it will compliment it nicely. also adding books and magazines on top wont make it as boring as square on square on square.

i have mine organized in many different ways. i have all my black book covers from tallest to smallest, then all my coloured ones on a different shelf from tallest to smallest and all my magazines or large card copy books are stacked. i think i might try completely colour coating them once i have a lot more books. my collection is slacking.

you can rent tools from any hardware store but that would probably cost a pretty penny.
i would suggest looking for those peel and stick wall hooks you can put on doors or walls without fear of ripping paint/putting holes in your walls. or in your case, crumbling the concrete in your building. they're normally used to hold coats, towels or what have you. im sure you can get them in all sorts of shapes and sizes and then hang a curtain rod from them.

this also might work IF the wall that is painted has dry wall over it. if its pure concrete than this is a no go.... i have done this before. i found a sheet, a funky patterned one from any fabric store or right off your own bed and i used tacks to pin it to the wall. voila.
