Hmm, for some reason I've always had a problem with cds getting scratched up when I keep them in those sleeves. Can anyone suggest a good brand?

I agree with jon's comment about "Years ago I would have vomited at the though, but now, I think it would be so much more simple." Exactly!

Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Shelf to Hold my DVD Collection?

I'm very disappointed that this is not a finalist. Seems to me that cleverly designed massive amounts of storage are exactly what small cool is supposed to be about!

Another ikea solution would be to use the standing poles from their Stolmen system with your own (ikea?) fabric.

This place is amazing, especially all the hidden storage done so stylishly... Oh, and I'm racking my mind trying to come up with a place in my home where I can use baking trays like that.

Would love to see a house tour of the place in sydney!

That would definitely be a good reason to stay your drill bit!

I did think of another alternative for the metal boxes. Perhaps a wooden shelf (painted or stained to closely match the antique) that rests on top of the chest.. the consoles would go under and the center speaker could rest on top. With the right height and a solid back (with holes for wires) to the shelf, you could even just hide all the connection wires right behind that.

Of course if you like the metal boxes then nevermind; I just have this urge to see stuff "centered". :)

I forgot to mention -- the wooden cover also allows you to mount your center speaker right on the cover. You can drill a hole in the cover to pass the speaker cable through.

There's one other thing you can do, which I've done to conceal the wires in my own system at home.

Since it is against code to run power cables in the wall unless you are using the special shielded runs (and terminating them in a clock outlet behind the tv) and I am not too excited about doing that myself, I decided to put the wires in front. However, I didn't really like the look of a tube or a loom so I built a cover out of a piece of wood and two battens. In the cavity behind this cover I fastened the wires, then screwed the cover to the wall. I think it looks a little more built in than a loom, especially if you choose to paint it the same color as the wall.

That said, I like your idea of using the chest as media storage. Looks great, but would be even nicer if it was just a little larger somehow so you could squeeze the consoles in there as well, eliminating the metal boxes. :)

Can you replace the picture of your view with a picture of your place??

Isn't this just an awkwardly sized imitation of a Japanese futon with a clock and light strapped to the outside cover?

Clearly, you have a machine that generates extra space out of nothing. (or maybe it runs on old magazines?) No doubt it's hidden underneath your loft bed... this is definitely a home I am looking forward to see more pictures of.

Do you have plans to add some baffles or other things to your walls in the mini concert hall? It seems like all the bare walls would be quite acoustically reflective.

Also, with speakers like that in an apartment like this, do you ever get complaints from your neighbors? Or do you invite them all in for movie night? ;)

One thing I don't get is why a dominant tv in front of the couch breaks "the rules"... especially when it's a nice looking tv.

This is great. I like how the kitchen pops out, actually. It makes the whole room look bigger. When I initially saw the first picture, my eyes were focused on the sofa and colored wall and I had assumed already in the back of my head that the kitchen was in its own separate room. Only when I looked more closely did I realize that the kitchen was really in a small nook!

This is a gorgeous studio. I am impressed with the hanging hallway light panels; can you provide more details on how you made them?

Also, I admire your lack of clutter and ability to hide things away so nicely.

About the only thing that I would say isn't ideal might be the bed, like others have said. It sort of pops out due to its color and location -- I assume it's intentional because the color ties in to the colored grid you have on the wall. Still, seems slightly out of place compared to the other colors you are using in your home.

One more thing -- are you tv-less and watching dvds on your laptops, or have you somehow hidden the tv underneath your bed as well? (or in the oven!) ;)

The living area is beautiful and the bed in the dining area looks good too. However, something about the dining table and chairs looks a bit out of place -- I think it may be the dark chairs popping when you're going for a very much all-white look.

How do you avoid soggy books when there's a whole bathtub of hot steamy water inches below it, regardless of whether or not you've got a bamboo shelf for the book or not?
