Japanese Trash's Profile

You know for me to post 9 images of one space means I’m seriously into what’s going on there. This place is a tremendous departure from what I see from day to day reviewing design blogs to bring the best of masculine design to you, and I couldn’t be happier (it’s even located right here in Austin; what could be better?).

As for the OSB debate, I’m of the opinion that the use of OSB for walls is part of what makes this place stand out from the crowd. In a good way, to my thinking. In some photos you can see it’s used for a variety of furnishings as well–from a coffee table to bar stools–and that’s where I think it’s gone over the line. I prefer to think the owner/architect will replace those items with other pieces down the line.

A couple of my favorite features: that kitchen is amazing; the mixture of elements in the dining space rocks; that black painted bedroom–wow; lighting and marble in the bathroom; and that awesome open walk-in dressing space!

The Plant is an amazing location for an event or to just get away from it all for a while. I've spent a number of wonderful days there and am constantly awed by the architecture and the setting.

Carrie, Mark, and Dana are not only wonderful stewards of this great property, but generous benefactors of grateful organizations like Rude Mechs who kick off their annual underground cultural tour, The Oyster Club, at the Plant!

I have a very similar sofa -- brown without the darker shade on the arm, etc. -- and it works really well in my space. The walls are painted Benjamin Moore "butter" and the woodwork is painted Benjamin Moore "chocolate sundae". You can see from my photo posted here that the concrete floor is stained a brown leather color, and there's a Flor rug that includes browns, greens and oranges. I hope this helps!

Roman and Williams are amazing and their specific take on masculine design is inspiring. There are so many other refreshing masculine takes on interiors -- yes, many utilizing color and texture -- it's what my site is all about. Take a look at Japanese Trash for more in masculine design.

The space has a ton of potential. Unfortunately what's been done with it is only a baby step up from a college dorm room. Worse, this lack of any real design is labeled "masculine".

I walked by this building earlier this week and thought of you, Adrienne, hoping you would profile it here soon so I could see what McGarrah Jessee have done with the interiors. Looking forward to the more expanded post!
