noona: i have two young daughters that use that second room as their room when they are here (as they are now for the summer). those pillows were made by meredith for them, and that's the reason there are more toys and fun stuff in that room than some of the others. :)

bklynbeach: the shelves and the countertops were done custom, but by the owner who used to live here.

FengShuiByFishgirl: those aren't prayer flags, but rather a flag that meredith has sewn. she made a few in vintage christmas fabrics that she sells. she made this one in a variety of cute fabrics and colors. still same idea, to fill the space with color.

dagonpaul: the hairpin legs are from hairpinlegs.com it was the first place that came up with hairpin legs when i googled it. but they shipped quickly and are very well made.

BigBossTweed: the couch is from macy's and is called the corona. it's really inexpensive and has managed to hold up for the 3 years or so that we have had it. i think it's on "sale" 365 days a year for 699 dollars. i think they put the sale price up to prompt you into buying it, but it's pretty much stayed that price every time i have bothered to look.

crazyreesie: jay is a friendly acquaintance of mine so i have quite a few. the one's that are up now are an andrew bird one and a print for 'the books' when we listed all of that stuff we weren't sure which photos would make it onto the tour and those i guess didn't. we also have a number of prints from the small stakes that i don't think are in there.

happyleaf: i have no idea... sorry! the flat bottom sink is a NIGHTMARE to keep clean though.

gibbler: yeah, we have experimented with quite a few variations on that. i think the pillows are brighter than the photos let on, but i totally get what you are saying.

i wish this tour had central air in it somewhere... chicago is soooo sticky and hot today. ugh.

yul. we both have a photographic and along the way morphing into graphic design background. i don't do it full time, but it's definitely an interest/obsession.

b77. it actually does play records, but i have a higher end turntable that i trust a bit more with some of my rarer vinyl. but this one is an rca victor.

sara. despite his street smart looks (with the snaggletooth), frankie gives and receives plenty of kisses. haha.

i have an eames aluminum group desk chair. it's authentic herman miller and i bought it used for 450 dollars. sure, that may be a lot of money for a desk chair for some of you to spend. however, i have sat in it comfortable for a few years now. i love the way that it looks and i love it's quality and comfort.

in terms of price, it's in the ballpark of some of the knock offs that are being advertised here. the main difference being, if i wanted i could likely sell my eames chair for what i paid for it. whereas the knock off would have lost most of it's value the second i took it out of the box.

plus, and maybe this is just me... i don't like not having the genuine article. i like what i like and i want the real thing.

i have the same chest (lowry from room & board, now discontinued, in case anyone is wondering) in the 5 drawer version and despite lots of wardrobe editing, it's stuffed. i can't imagine how you make it on three drawers.

in reference to the bertoia chair by the front door. i think it's great. who doesn't need a place to put on shoes before leaving?

it's well furnished... but it seems almost austere to me. i like my modernism served with a bit of color and fun.

allison. we were promised the sofa in about three weeks and it took about three months. we were refunded our delivery fee because of the long wait. they said it would come off automatically, but it still took about a half dozen phone calls to have it refunded. maybe others have had a better experience, but i found the macy's (formerly marshall fields) on state street in chicago to be one of the most unorganized and exasperating places i have ever bought a piece of furniture. that said... it is a nice couch and for 700 bucks it's pretty unbeatable.

this place must've cost you hundreds!
