I'm really loving this series, Faith! Thanks for spelling it all out. This is a great resource, especially for those of us who are dragging our feet on a kitchen remodel on a limited budget. It's reassuring to see how much you and your husband were able to do yourselves. It gives me hope for our remodel (hopefully in the next two years!)

I agree--there are many elements that I like (Wedgwood stove, copper pots, built-in shelves with chicken wire doors), but all of it together is way over-the-top for my taste.

I often wonder whether people add a bunch of extra "design elements" just for these photo shoot. It seems like it would be nearly impossible to cook with a taxidermy goose in the way (I'd either accidentally add it to the stock pot, or guiltily succumb to its glassy-eyed stare and become a vegan).

This is a lovely home.

FYI: My husband and I have lived in our 800 sq ft apartment for 15 years. Two bedrooms, ONE bathroom, two adults, a 12 year old boy and 8 year old girl. We have friends and relatives visit frequently, usually sleep on an air mattress in our living room. Other than the rare line for the bathroom, we love it. I'd stay put if I were you! That house is a dream.
