By AT standards this isn't a tour at all. I think it's AT promoting this guy's site and getting people to click on it. He's probably a friend of a friend etc. etc. John's Dwelling Place Matures into a Sanctuary House Tour |

I don't have to look at the bathroom every day but I too love it. Please do not paint over the tile! I like the use of black in there with the pink. I hope you grant the tile a reprieve and wait to make a decision on it until you've switched out other elements, like the tub & toilet & floor. And of course that shower curtain. I think that may be your real problem! Options For Pink Bathroom Tile? Good Questions |

This tour is a good example of what keeps me coming back to AT even though the site seems to have become little more than a way to market to people whose imagination doesn't go much further than the closest IKEA. This apartment isn't my style necessarily but it is such a personal reflection (or appears to be) of the woman who lives there and has made it her own by hunting for stuff all over the place and putting it together. I love the cabinet/case with glass on photo 8 or 9 and I love the way Heather describes her place and her style. I applaud listing your mother as your inspiration. Jennifer Juniper - I'm gay but marry me and we'll split the loot 50/50. Then we'll break up. But maybe we'll add yet another baby to the world in between and get a bunch of crap for that as well. Why make a thing out of every event? That's a fantastic question. I think the answer is marketing. Breakup Shower: Would You Throw One? Would You Want One? |

These guys must cry themselves to sleep every night because they don't live in a city with an IKEA in it. Sorry - could not resist. I too think the square footage is a bit off the charts but the tour itself is a really nice change of pace for a site that does seem stuck on "mid-century" everything. I love the refinished wood - or perhaps it was never painted in the first place. Chris & Tyler's Sense of Stewardship House Tour |

Ahhh, that gaping hole has now been filled and we can all breathe easier. Not that long ago there was a roundup of house tours from Saint Louis and they were above and beyond some of the best tours I've ever seen on AT in terms of originality, creativity, use of old spaces for new purposes, etc. How did those poor people in eastern Missouri do it without IKEA in the back yard I'll never know. I live in one of the most popular, most trendy metropolitan areas in the U.S. I grew up in one of the least popular, least trendy metropolitan areas in the U.S. Once I quit paying attention to which way the trends were blowing I noticed something amazing: My hometown, architecturally, historically, is one of the most gorgeous cities in this land of ours. But it's not very popular because "the creatives" are pouring into cities like X, Y and Z by the thousands. So I'm getting ready to sell my shack here for way more than it's worth and move there and shell out $400 a month for a 1,000 sf apartment with stained glass, beautiful floors, a fireplace, a kitchen big enough for a table,12-foot ceilings. I'll be in culture shock for a few years but what the hell. Living In The Most Expensive Cities: How Long Can We Keep This Up? |

I have something of a brick fetish so I do think that painting it borders on criminal. Also, I live in a city where there's precious little brick and for some reason it's become very trendy to paint it very dark shades (black, gray and brown particularly). I agree with the sentiments of most of the previous comments this is a really cool space with a wonderfully weird mix of both objects and vibes. In addition there is something really intriguing about the photography for this tour. I love the shot of the chandelier and for some reason I thought the close-up shot of the sink beside one of the windows was particularly mesmerizing. Taking an experience with one less-than neighbor and applying it across the board as an excuse to not connect with people alongside whom you live is pathetic, in my opinion. Developers continue to destroy our inner cities by abandoning buildings by the block. The cities belong to us all, so in a very real sense letting the infrastructure go is as much a statement as what lots of us middle class white folk call "graffiti." In a society that largely ignores what's going on in the urban core for the sake of IKEA and other sprawly garbage, my guess is that putting some color of your own onto a surface is a way of proving (if only to yourself) that you actually live there. Though probably harmless, It is somewhat skanky, in my opinion, to read folks licking their man chops via the keyboards as the youngsters showcase their design skills. It reminds me of certain bars - long gone - in Baltimore and Portland, Oregon. That said, I LOVE this apartment. I love the story about painting a room three times before finally settling on his original color scheme. There is something about these rooms that seems at once effortless and very thoughtful. This tour seems to me to be more about vision and instinct and less about budgets and big names. That's Apartment Therapy at its best. Ricardo's Spin On Mid Century Nostalgia House Tour |

So, so glad to see others with the same question I have: Other than the fact that Apartment Therapy exists to sell products, why is this question on the site?
