I wouldn't call this 'Shabby Chic'. To my mind, 'Shabby Chic' is worn reproductions of antiques. These look like real antiques to me. And if they are reproductions, they are good ones and well thought out and put together. I am not sure that your writer of this piece is educated enough to know the difference between real antiques and reproductions, or to know when design elements are well thought out and put together, even though they may not be of the writer's personal taste. One can appreciate something well done, without wanting to live with it. I think these rooms are very well put together. And I like them. They are not amateurish, they look professionally polished. I gave up collecting. I had various collections. It's fun doing it, but then you become the caretaker of these things, and it gets too much like a museum for me. I love shopping, but these days I really don't want to own all that stuff! Now I stick with clothes shopping. Wearing new stuff never gets old. I read that the orange is what killed Andy Warhol. It was in his kitchen. Water leaked on it constantly and somehow it got into the water/food and over time it poisoned him. Apartment Therapy DC | Collections: Fiesta Dinnerware! |

Nicely balanced kitchen. Not your usual run of the mill design. I probably would use a smaller table in the middle, but in general I really like it. It feels right to me. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | How To: Open Up a Kitchen (Without Knocking Down a Wall) |

Since you already have loads of very good advice about avoiding credit, I'm going to answer your question. Ethan Allen is one place you can buy on credit. They do have modern furnishings. Some very nice and lots of fabric selection. If you do it during one of the promotions you get longer without interest. This looks like the most elegant wonderful hotel room. I don't mean that as an insult. I used to work on hotels and they rarely have the elegance of this room, though they should. I agree that this room looks unlived in because it probably hasn't been yet. Also, designers have to go with their clients wishes. You can't fault a designer for designing an apartment that does not look like his own home. I always tell my clients, "I'm not going to live there, you are!" A designer's job is to help the client avoid design mistakes, infuse the space with the client's personalty, be beautiful and function well. This succeeds. Oh, I also went on yelp boards for cities I was considering and asked questions. People were very generous with information. I could have found an apartment through one of the real estate brokers I conversed with. It helped me rule out Houston and Galveston. I found my first place in Savannah as a 3 month share/sublet with a lovely SCAD student who would be in the apartment with me for a week or so before he left for the holidays. I had the place to myself for a few months, to get settled and he told me which neighborhoods to avoid, etc. I had no car then and he told me not to go out walking there at night. I also joined some Savannah Meet Up groups from Manhattan prior to moving, so I had social events to go to as soon as I came. Now I have a car, but I didn't for the first 8 months I was here. I actually made more friends by not having a car. People would come pick me up, and we got to know each other better the driving separately. I would definitely recommend Meet Up groups. You can even start one. Hope this helps someone who is itching to move. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Moving to a New City Resource Austin |

I moved from Savannah from NYC without ever visiting here first! I used craigslist and yelp, google images and articles about Savannah. Savannah is a beautiful tourist town and there is a lot written about SCAD. I knew I could be in a walking neighborhood, which I felt was important to me psychologically to transfer out of living in Manhattan. And I knew it was beautiful and would have enough gong on for me culturally. I didn't know how much of an 'ex-patriot' community there is here. That was a pleasant surprise, as was Tybee and the lovely marshes surrounding the city. It worked for me, but I would have loved to have something like Rentwiki. I would do each window individually. Use a double rod-one with sheers and the outer one with a heavy light blocking fabric. I would do them more like shades, so you don't lose any of the interior architecture or the view of that gorgeous building across the way.The inner one could be a light solid sheer or a beautiful lace pattern. I would hang the rod on the inside of the frame at the angle of the frame. These could be made by someone else or modified by you, by cutting and hemming the bottom so it was straight.
