This has got to be a Round Hill Pacific apartment in Cap Hill...looks just like the place I lived last year.

I would recommend proceeding with caution when it comes to a bird. (Doesn't sound like you're leaning in the bird direction, anyway, but...) They can be terribly loud, and neighbors in an apartment building aren't going to appreciate that. A friend of mine used to have someone's pet bird living above him, and he got really tired of the racket. And my ex's parents had a bird that I, as a certified Animal Lover, detested and frequently, silently willed it to drop dead. It was loud and aggressive towards people it didn't like, which was, um, everyone.

God, I hate that bird.

The little orange toilet in the black cubbie is too cute. (And how often does one say a toilet is cute?)

I have leather couches for exactly this reason - they don't hold the cat hair (I have three puddies) so you don't have to spend five minutes cleaning your seat before you sit down.

I don't really like leather, though - a big dead animal skin in my living room kinda bothers me - but the couches were free from my parents. When I replace them I will have to look into vinyl or else suck it up and start vacuuming upholstery again. Ugh!

How did I deal living with a pack rat? Not well - my ex wanted to keep EVERY little random interesting thing he came across. As an example, a thermometer broke one day and he scooped up the little blobs of mercury from inside into an empty prescription bottle. He thought it was "cool" and absolutely refused to throw it away, which led to probably our biggest fight over the issue of keeping stuff. It drove me crazy that he kept absolutely useless things like that, and we now had to find places for them and move them around with us if we moved.

That relationship has ended, thank goodness.

Horrible crap tied in to the worst book I've ever attempted to read. Sorry.

I do the same as cassielynn - they both point the same way (either right or left) so one ends up facing in and one faces out.

I never thought about spiders in my pillowcase before. (Just typing wouldn't fully convey my reaction here...) Great, another irrational fear, along with not sleeping with my arm hanging over the edge of the bed because Something (what is it? Where? Why am I not afraid of it during the day?) will reach out from under the bed and grab it.

I agree about the "junk drawer" kind of stuff. When packing, I never know what to do with it, so I usually end up packing at least one box labeled "misc. stuff." It's an easy place to throw those random things when packing up, but it's a PITA when unpacking because they're usually small items and lots of them.

I was given a spoon rest as a gift. I doubt I'd ever have bought one for myself, but since I have it, I use it and find it, uh, useful. If I didn't have it, though, I would be doing the same as a previous commenter and just putting the dirty spoon on the stovetop. I'm going to clean it later anyway.

I also have an *old* iced tea maker that used to belong to my parents. Again, wouldn't have bought one for myself, but since I have it, I use it, and I like it.

Um...I think you mean "erring" on the side of less, not "airing."

I'm an atheist and would definitely live here. I think it's just gorgeous. And the cemetery doesn't bother me. They're dead bodies rotting in the ground - there's certainly nothing alive left to haunt you. That's, frankly, really silly.

Thank you! These are a little out of my price range right now, but I remember looking for hanging planters last year and having a terrible time finding anything that was simple and modern looking.

Rubber plants are another type of ficus...ficus elastica. This is a ficus lyrata, or fiddle leaf fig. They like bright light and will need regular watering. As others have mentioned, ficus plants tend to prefer to stay in the spot they have gotten used to and not move around a lot. They also dislike drafts.

I guess I'm in the minority...I like the "before" pictures better. For one thing, I love cube-y shelves like that (in fact I'd love to find one just like this) and I like the games, baskets, etc being visible - makes it feel more homey to me.

I also keep my alarm clock in the bathroom, so that I HAVE to get out of bed to turn it off. I set the alarm to come on at one time, and then set the alarm on my cell phone (which I keep bedside) for five minutes later. When the first alarm goes off, I have five minutes to lay in bed and listen to the radio before the cell phone goes off and it's time to get up and at 'em.

It also helps me if I lay out clothes, pack a lunch, etc, the night before. Somehow (seems contradictory) I have an easier time getting out of bed knowing that all of that stuff has already been done - like, "see, you already put some effort into making today a good day, now don't ruin it by not getting out of bed on time!"

Where is the one in the picture from? I have a weird aversion to white furniture, but otherwise I love it. I wonder if it's available in other finishes.
