I heard a good rule a while ago that has worked for me: You can mix woods, but always try to have two of each. That way it looks deliberate.

Hmm..It depends on the kind of mood you want to set. Cool bedrooms are more conducive to rest and relaxation, warm bedrooms are more conducive to...well, other things.

I would like to point out that each of these bedrooms has both warm and cool elements. For me a nice harmony is the best way to go.

Ok, it may be over the top, but this is totally in keeping with the spirit of the West Village, where she lives. context is everything. there has to be room on AT for house tours that aren't filled with midcentury danish teak furniture. I find it fun and whimsical!

This is a great space. Eclectic yet streamlined. (Although I wish some of the shots of living room were a little less tight...but can't win em' all.)

This is a beautiful space! My living room is in a brownstone too and is the layout is almost identitcal. I would place a small (maybe round) dining table near the window, and the the couch in the center of the room either flush with the wall or floating in the center of the room so there is space to walk behind it. Alternately, you could have the couch and chairs facing eachother and flanking the fireplace (parallel to the windows) so that the projection screen could be visible from the seating, but the fireplace would still be the focal point. Hope this helps. I know the challenges of designing in townhouses, but above all I'm a sucker for charm, and this place certainly has it.
