oooo pretttty. i don't think i would choose it for my personal everyday cooking needs, but i kind of LOVE it. the ceiling fixture is lovely. does it come with a circa 1976 cocktail dress? are the only things in the cabinets vodka, vermouth, and a jar of olives? it makes me want to slip on my shiny gold heels, pile on the mascara and start making martinis. its only 11am. i want to call everyone 'daaaahling.'

When I lived in a heavily woodsy area, I had a massive ant infestation and started keeping my baking items in the bottom drawer - sugars, flour, butter, nuts, chocolate - and it worked so well I still do it. Veggies still get the above drawer, and everything is kept fresh and seems to last longer. no problem with humidity so far.

but as a side by side user, i do long for one of those freezer on the bottom fridges so I can slide a sheetpan into either section.

I admit it, I'm an addict and I have a serious problem. This year, I've got 16 tomato plants - and as I'm in sunny LA, they are already taller than I am, bushy, and I've got the first blush of red on one fruit!

I've got- Super Marzano, Marianna's Peace, Pineapple, Green Pineapple, Paul Robeson,Moonglow, Brandywine, Great White, Stupice, Black & Brown Boar, Michael Pollan (this is an actual variety, small yellow pears w/ green stripes!), Sunsugar, Zebra cherry, Snow White, Jaune Flamme, and Japanese Black Trifele.

watch out for tomato hornworms!

Ringleader - do you have a good rec for powder coating in the LA area? I have a set of fantastic vintage metal outdoor furniture that is begging for a fresh coat of paint this summer! Your help is greatly appreciated - thanks!

As a geeky bookworm in my preteens, my favorite reading spot was just outside of my bedroom window, on top of the garage rooftop. I would climb out of my bedroom on long summer days, shaded by a giant oak, barefoot, with a tall glass of ice tea and my favorite book of the moment and settle in for a long read until dinnertime. There's something so perfect about being up high and out of reach!

That is, until the cops caught sight of me one day and scared the bejesus out of my mother. After a stern lecture, the window screen was nailed shut to prevent further breakouts...:(

Gorgeous - nice job! I have some raised veggie beds that i lovingly built too, but i left them unstained - did you have any concerns about the chemicals in the stain leaching into the soil for your edible crops? otherwise, the stain looks fabulous.

i have to admit, i do like the convenience of those disposables - however there are now biodegradable cloths available (i use method) that i can just throw in the backyard compost. voila!

my little black sheddy dog would like to sleep on my fresh white linens, and after rescuing the critter from a questionable past, i don't have the heart to kick him off the bed. i keep a quilty washable blanket folded at the foot of the bed - after a few times of making it clear that he is allowed only on his 'bed' - he can now sleep on his blanky, on the bed, and my white linens stay reasonably fresh.

the cat though, won't have any of it, and sleeps wherever he pleases.

not sure about the horse manure - there is almostnothing so attractive to my dog than horse s**t. both of my dogs love surreptitiously snacking on the piles whenever we encounter them on our hikes, before being dragged away by their completely disgusted human. i once caught the little one on his back, rolling in it ecstatically, making happy little grunting noises....

good for the grass, though, absolutely.

i usually keep the window open, keep the bathroom clean, but i also have a little vanilla scented candle (ikea, $1.99! what can i say, i love a bargain) in there for guests and on an 'as needed' basis.

but i also find that my green tea bar soap keeps the room smelling nice and herbally-fresh, too....

Sometimes the Loft is worth the effort! Last year at the Loft, I scored a few yards of Eames 'small dots' fabric in cream/fawn, enough to upholster 4 dining chairs...
