looks like she used FLOR tiles, which are rubber backed. Looks like the Fedora style, which is like a thick felt, so that would eliminate the curled edges and cut pile mess issue.

I "buy" magazine subscriptions with my cokerewards points (diet coke addict.) Like others, I tear out what looks interesting..usually at first sitting just to get the magazine body into recycling and out the door...

Then I set the clips aside for about a month (long enough for the mags to get the recipes onto their websites). I sit down in front of the tv, and look up the recipes that interest me on the sites and save them in Living Cookbook. LC has an app you can download that clips them for you in one click, then downloads them to the cookbook software. Easy peasy. I've downloaded thousands of recipes, and only rarely have come up with one that I CAN'T find online. If not on the original site they are usually found on a blog somewhere.

a parent dropped their 3 year old child off at my daughter's 2nd birthday party...without a diaper bag, and without knowing who we were at all. We (and the rest of the party parents) were SHOCKED. The mother must have figured it out, though as she stayed at every other party her child attended that year :)

I go back and forth on it...I like to bake from scratch, but I also like a quick mix for when we want cakerightnow. Mostly it comes down to "do I want to think about what I'm making, or just make something sweet and yummy?"

I will also use canned frosting and doctor it up..like lemon cupcakes with cream cheese frosting mixed with shredded coconut. Those were darn good, and no one suspected I used canned frosting. In fact, one of the party guests said to her mom "why can't we have yummy frosting like this at home?" hee hee.

The end result is really lovely and looks much like a much more expensive custom kitchen...and I am envious of the stove!!

That being said, I am sad the original cabinets and countertop had to be ripped out. They are seriously cool.

totally off topic, but this was one of my favorite thrifts in Chicago. I used to find bags of Vera scarves there for pennies each, and they have a 2nd floor filled with furniture.

*sniff* I miss Chicago thrift stores!

We actually have a 1 car tuck-under garage at basement level (partial walkout) that is now out of commission due to the new 2 car garage we built on the alley. We plan to convert it to a master bedroom with french doors out to our backyard, but for now it is storage as we finish the new garage and the rest of our basement.

I am usually too tired and stressed in the morning to think about browning meats and getting dinner squared away. I finally gave up on the slow cooker and started using my pressure cooker. I like it because I can decide on my way home from work or school what we are going to eat, stop by the store to pick up any last minute provisions, and have pot roast with all the trimmings on the table in 45 minutes, or potato-leek soup in 20 minutes. I'm really a fly by the seat of my pants cook, so it works for me.

I would love to know what you prepared for dinner that only took 30 seconds prep time though. I don't think I can make a pb&j sandwich in 30 seconds.

Great tip MDorothy! thanks!

I saved a foaming dish soap bottle I bought once, and I refill it with 3 or 4 tablespoons of regular dish soap and then fill to the fill line with water. It works just as well, and I swear one little bottle of regular dish detergent lasts about a year.

The case can be made that many baby items are unnecessary, but a few make life with baby so much more pleasant.

We didn't buy a changing table. We had a metal shelving unit that was table height from The Container Store we no longer used in the kitchen, so I put a changing pad on top of that and stored the diapers, etc on the shelves.

I will say I LOVED our wipe warmer. I thought it was so nice to have warm wipes for baby's bottom. I got rid of it along with the changing table when my daughter started wearing training diapers, and she still cringes when I use a cold wipe. Spoiled!

We also never got a high chair. I fed her in her walker and then moved her to her own table when she turned 2. Of course, she feels terribly deprived, and at 2.5 still tries to get into other toddler's high chairs when we visit her friends.

My life changed when we remodeled our kitchen and I got a new microwave (it's a kitchen aid, can't remember exact model). It has all sorts of settings and sensors so I just put the butter on the plate, choose "soften" "butter" "1 stick" and off it goes! It also perfectly steam cooks ears of corn :)

I have been thinking about variations on this recipe and not being able to use liquids. I am thinking I may experiment with mixing flavorings and extracts into the powdered sugar and letting it dry up a bit before starting the recipe. Kind of like sneaking in some liquid flavor.

totally agree on the A&D cream...I use it as a lip balm when my lips get really chapped. They heal within a day! Also great for rough feet and cuticles.

Oh, just to clarify, I have a "virgin" tube (not used for baby's butt) to apply to my lips.

When I worked at Restoration Hardware we would make the duvets covers look extra luscious by putting two down comforters into one cover. It looked so cozy and inviting. This is something I do at home now for a super-duper cozy winter duvet.

I have the cylinder one from Pottery Barn. At Christmas I put tinsel on the bottom, then fill it up with vintage ornaments. I'm pretty much stumped on what to put in it the rest of the year...

I have hardwood with area rugs. I'm no fine example of tidiness, but I have a Dyson I use every other day to vacuum both wood and carpet, as well as tile in bathroom and slate in kitchen. I regularly clean the area rugs as they get nasty with dogs and toddler. I just hosed off my Flor carpet tiles in the front yard and they are drying in the sun.

I had a hook where I pulled too fast on the adhesive tab and it broke off...my husband thought the only thing I could do was pry it off the wall and take the drywall with it. Instead I took a very sharp pocket knife (would have used a long razor if I could have found it) and gently worked it behind the adhesive strip and rocked it back and forth down the length. It came off without so much as a paint chip being removed from the wall. I love 3M command products, being ADD and not being able to commit to artwork in any one place in my house they really come in handy!!

I would play up the art deco colors in here. Love the mint/jade green - use black and cream accents, and a touch of scarlet or burgundy red. I would probably go cream on the walls, black on the sink base. Find some bakelite handles. Use an octagon-pattern floor tile of the era. This could be a very lovely bathroom!

yes, that poster is hilarious.

I freak out about my basement flooding...it flooded twice, and my husband was out of town both times. Once, I was 8 months pregnant and had to rip all the carpet out the next day with my visiting step-mother. No wonder I went into labor 3 weeks early!

I also freak out about my furnace going out in the dead of a Minnesota winter. It did once and I had to pile baby and pets into the living room and tend to a roaring fire in the fireplace until the furnace dude showed up to fix it.
