babyfishmouth; as a tall person, i appreciate a deep sofa.

besides, the ease of getting in and out of a sofa has more to do with the cushion and spring firmness than depth.

just sayin'.

fab sofa makeover. very tuxedo.

Fantastic! I kinda like the idea of using this as a kids' bath 'pouf'; a colourful, soft, friendly-looking version of 'mom and dad's'.

since you're asking my suggestion:

1/ cut back the length of your shelves so that they don't meet up with the window wall but stop at and allign with the 'down' pipe on the ceiling (which also nicely alligns with the direction change of the sofa). this will create more space on the wall to do something interesting with and unify the wall with the sofa making it look like it belongs there a bit better.

2/ large-scale artwork, a mirror to bounce around the light or a cluster of 3 nifty photos where the shelves used to be (one of these pieces could cover the outlet)

3/ window wall also art/photos - without the shelves there, you can put up some good sized pieces.

4/ a sunken (4" ish) triangular shelf or table for the corner to put your phone, reading lamp and appropriately scaled plant on (handy for beverages, too)

5/ move the outlets to somewhere you find them convenient. really: a short visit by an electrician will save you money and headaches doing camouflage work. you can then fix up your drywall BEFORE re-painting. (fill the holes from the shelf etc. too.

good luck Tiffa!

really. if it's just on those odd rainy/sick days that you wish to watch the boob tube in your bedroom, use a laptop.

would you buy a convenient mini fridge if, twice a year, you really enjoyed a chilled glass of wine in the bathroom?

sheesh.

Toronto is a great example of an urban paradise: solid houses, lots of parks and grand old trees, great schools, fantastic public transit, walkable safe and exciting neighbourhoods, quality markets etc. etc. etc... our suburbs lack all of those things.

I think we're spoiled with space in N.America (land of the 'more') and have lost sight of a few things. With other lessons, City living can teach children how to better live efficiently.

I wouldn't trade my small urban yard with its local flora and local park for a big suburban backyard of lonely grass. Our local parks are not just playgrounds, they're rich social hubs that teach and foster a rich sense of community.

But that's Toronto. Come visit. :)

hey AT folks: why is it so bad to enjoy something that others enjoy? is nothing in your house mass-produced?

ah coffee: not only does it wake you up in the morning (mid morning, afternoon etc..) it also actually acts as a scent absorber and repels ants.

no worries, laura, your house will actually smell better (or -- at least -- less).

Chores as a kid? yes.

BUT: It wasn't until i had my own kid that i learned how to clean in earnest.

seriously: it's not until your little loved one -- who puts everything in their mouth -- brings you down to floor (and under-toilet) level that you appreciate the beauty of proper cleaning.

Most industrial design is a result of teamwork. Interns work with a design team and further, a manufacturing team and/or engineers who make a reality of ideas.

Besides, have a good look at that wonderuflly detailed sketch... really? someone is using that as proof of some kind of idea? If you've ever seen the detail that is needed to procure a patent, you might question the validity of that doodle. perspective? material? fasteners? elevations? pffth.
