Seems like the overwhelming evidence is pretty clear - West Elm makes poor products.

Guess I'm fortunate enough to not be able to support. I have a WE desk and TV cabinet I bought two years ago, and a platform bed and headboard I bought three and a half years ago.

The desk and the TV cabinet are surprisingly heavy, with no fiberboard. They feel very very solid.

As for the headboard and king-size platform bed, the clear answer there is that they're both 'good stuff'. I weigh around 260lbs (I know, I know) with a 100lb dog. They've both been through a couple of moves, and, well, have survived some good times.

So - not refuting anyone else's experience. Just providing my own.

But yes - buyer beware should be an ongoing consumer mantra - not just one for supposedly sketchy products or stores.

Hmmmm...... Maybe the quality has changed over the years. I have a tv cabinet, sofa, desk and platform bed with large wooden headboard. NOTHING is hollow or laminate. The bed and sofa I've had for years and have survived two moves perfectly (a challenge for a lot of ikea furniture). The tv cabinet is small (I live in a Manhattan apt) and solid as a rock.... Very heavy. I work in marketing for an entertainment company...not West Elm, and have no reason to lie. Just surprised with all the negative comments. PS: My folks do well and I have grown up around solid quality furniture my whole life. My West Elm stuff isn't a $10k settee or $4k desk, but it's no Ikea.
