in rental apartments I have drawn a line at almost my uppermost comfortable painting level and repainted up from the floor to that point. This usually covers the scuffed areas. then I paint a second color as a border. after that just clean the upper walls and hang art. If you are handy you can even add trim molding framing the border color. the carpet is an issue that would be quite expensive to tackle, would your landlord credit the rent if you had it replaced?

I live in Tampa Fl and AC use is just a fact of life. We keep the thermostat at 78 and use fans extensively. I wish I had a whole house fan because they work so well at night. However, I would also need better security on my windows, there is no way I could fall asleep with my windows wide open.

Pi, I think you may be confusing rattan and wicker. I have 1950's Art Deco Rattan furniture and it is sturdy, solid, and smooth. Wicker sometimes does have little prickly bits and it will creak. Of course, quality does make a difference. If it was well made when it is new, then wicker pieces wears better.

I am tired of seeing faux animal heads, it seems they are in every other post. initially an inventive twist, now way overdone!

I do love your exciting house, the purples and yellows are balanced beautifully with white. I have a small suggestion, I would also paint the fireplace surround white, the yellow/beige brick stands out and I think bringing the white from the wall unit across the room would work for you..

I fully support restoring the kitchen window, however the shelves that were installed instead of the cabinets turned a safe
generic kitchen in to a disconcerting jumble. Adding the window and re-purposing the upper cabinets would have resulted in a more cohesive look.

Personally,I think that the difference in finishes is interesting. Why must everything be matchy matchy? A decision that was made due to budgetary considerations morphed into a serendipitous winning strategy!

keep the stone, its beautiful and certainly will be more modern without the country looking accessories and paint. Also, remove the existing mantle as it is too small.

Please consult your notes and post the info on the paint colors in the dining room and living room. I love both and the way the play off each other.

I once babysat for friends and was driven to distraction by their youngest child. I couldn't find him in their apartment when it was time to eat. He disappeared while I was at the door paying for pizza. after frantically looking "everywhere" for him I finally found him on top of the refrigerator. he was 13 months old and could barely walk! The other kids just laughed at his "trick" Apparently walking and climbing use different skill sets. that said kids will explore any available environment and can easily scare the uninitiated.

I have been making "garbage soup" periodically for 30 years. I keep a largish container in the freezer and any meat, starch or vegetable (even salad) leftovers just get dumped in. When the container is full I add stock and seasoning to make a tasty soup that is different every time. I don't use highly seasoned leftovers like chili, they throw off the flavor for what is essentially vegetable soup. Try it you will be pleasantly surprised!

My bathroom is fine now but once I lived in an apartment where the upstairs bathroom flooded and my ceiling collapsed. The landlord was very slow on any repairs and refused to fix it. one morning while I was brushing my teeth I noticed a slight movement from the exposed floor joists. There was a rat above me watching my morning routine! I moved out pretty fast!
