wouldn't the bubbles just collect dust on the raised side? that would look icky--a dusty piece of plastic hanging in front of your window. bleagh! although, I guess you could take it outside & hose it off... Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | How To: Make Bubble Wrap Curtains |

When you think of housing affordability, do you factor in transportation costs? Where I live (Vancouver, BC) houses cost nearly double the price in the city as in the suburbs. However, the cost of buying, owning, maintaining & feeding gas to two cars negates the difference in the long run. I had to spend a lot for my house in the city, but I don't need a car & I can walk or cycle everywhere I need to go. The exercise I get commuting also saves me money & time--I don't need to go to the gym & I'm healthier. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Quotes: An Argument For Smaller Homes |

Hm. In Canada, we call the down thingie inside a duvet. The thing you put over it is a duvet cover. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Comforter or Duvet? |

I just saw one last week... cast iron... sandwich-sized... Can't remember the brand. It was in the Gourmet Warehouse, in Vancouver, BC. Apartment Therapy New York | Blogging Real Simple: Dream Inventions |

I've been woken up lately by construction of a new house a few doors down. It's not so much the noise that wakes me (way up north in Vancouver, BC we sleep with our windows closed in February) but the shaking. The excavator makes my whole house shudder. I just hope they finish the foundation soon... Apartment Therapy New York | Garbage and Noise in the Bedroom |

Has anybody considered how potentially dangerous *glass* bottles are in the shower? I can't think of a worse place to use them: you're half-asleep in your morning shower, your hands are wet, possibly soapy, & you're standing on a hard surface in your bare feet! As lovely as they'd look, it just sounds like an emergency room visit waiting to happen. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Best Tips for a Label Free Shower |

I got an LG fridge a couple of years ago. (model GR-389) It's about 24" wide, 24" deep & over 6' tall. I think the capacity is 11.5 cu ft. Definitely enough for two. The bottom-mount freezer has several drawers in it to keep things organized & accessible. In the fridge part there are tons of adjustable shelves & drawers. I would definitely recommend this fridge. karinab: you can have your whole house wired with a 'kill switch' that will turn off all the outlets you don't need to run when you're asleep or away from home. It would turn off your DVD player & your TV & your toaster, but not your fridge, for instance. Talk to an electrician! Apartment Therapy New York | Blogging Real Simple: Dream Inventions |

An oven uses up a HUGE amount of electricity. There's a reason that you need a special 40 amp plug to use one... Turning your oven on will waste way more electricity than a few light bulbs. Apartment Therapy Chicago | How To...Stay Warm at Home without Much Heat |

I think the key to insta-tidying is sexy baskets. Get twice as many as you think you'll need from Ikea or wherever, set them up under your coffee table, bedside tables, desk, side tables, tv bench, on bookcases... everywhere. Then toss clutter in there before the visitors show up. The trick is long-term maintenance--sorting the junk out of them every once in a while so it doesn't just fill them forever.
